Italy was experiencing a heatwave in early July and we decided to depart a day early and stop over in the mountains for the night, Somewhere close to the motorway that would take us through the Mont Blanc Tunnel to France and the UK, with a car that had to be parked safely as loaded with wine! (It took about 45 mins to get to the tunnel from Al Maniero).Having stayed there we would recommend it as a place to stay to break the journey in comfort. The restaurant is excellent, a bit pricey but good food and very popular with the locals on a week day evening. There is no need for air conditioning as a good breeze blows through the open window, The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom spacious. There is a lift up to the 2 floors. They advertise wifi but not really acceptable so did without, In Issogne there is a bank, a post office and an historic fortified house (Castle) that has guided tours in Italian, every half hour through out the day. We found it both charming and interesting.Note: In this area both French and Italian are spoken. Al Maniero translates as The Manor House. Dinner with wine, for 2 â¬109. Room and simple breakfast, with tax â¬81.50.We thought this would be an excellent stop over in cold weather too as the mountain food would be especially enjoyed at that time of year. . . .

This small reataurant originally catered to rock climbers who visit the nearby Machaby crag, but has become popular because the quality of food, which is entirely local, is exceptional, and prices just can't be beaten. Although you can have just a sandwich, the typical fixed menu comprises two starters (mostly local cold cuts and cheese) and one or two soups (including a very good chestnut soup). To die for!

This is a lovely family-run restaurant where they serve excellent food in a friendly atmosphere, The menu is small (hand-written in a little notebook), presumably because all the food is cooked to order, from scratch. The portions are generous, the food very tasty and the service is always with a smile. And it's very good value. A great little restaurant.
