These two companies have left their mark on the city, building both office buildings and local attractions. The Leila Arboretum, part of Battle Creek's 7,000 acres of parkland, was created by the widow of CW Post, founder of Post Cereals. Post himself had been inspired to go into the cereal business after a visit to the now-historic Battle Creek Sanitarium, which was then run by John Kellogg.

I was traveling with a colleague across Michigan. Instead of going to Wendy's off the highway, we decided to drive in to Battle Creek to see if there were any good local lunch options. We settled on Umami Ramen, and it was absolutely one of the most delicious meals I've had. The pork tonkotsu broth was rich and flavorful and the ramen noodles had perfect consistency. The number of add-ons, from seaweed to kimchi to pickled vegetables, made the soup a full meal. Just writing about it makes me wish I was eating it again. I also had a boba tea (they have a few on the menu) which is still weird with those mushy things no matter how "hip" the kids say it is.The shop itself is quite small with group seating and a no-frills, exposed kitchen. It's clear they make everything on-site and the service was friendly and enthusiastic. Price was very reasonable for the quality of the ingredients - no more than lunch at any boring eatery that caters to the business lunch crowd. Seriously the food is worth a trip across Michigan from wherever you live. I will definitely stop at Umami Ramen again next time I'm traveling in that direction.Thank you Daniel, we are pleased that you ventured into Battle Creek and found our little ramen shop. We are also pleased that you enjoyed your meal. Yes everything is made fresh onsite daily and we source as much as we can from local farms and growers. Boba tea is an acquired taste because of the texture but delivers and rewarding and refreshing experience, besides being hip. :-)We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to our area.

The staff is helpful in accomadating special dietary needs, gluten free and vegetarian items available. There are yummy baked goods available - scones, brownies and cookies. I love lunching here.

Food is always tasty and do not disappoint. We especially like the variety of iced teas that are offered. The bagels have a light airy taste to them. The sandwiches are good and my daughter says they have the best mac and cheese. I would warn people to try to,a pose the lunch hour during the week. Practically impossible to find a place to park.
