Our friends who live in Ljubljana recommended we visit Gostina Mahnic and we were not disappointed. This nicely furnished restaurant offers dining both inside and outside under a covered terrace.The restaurant specialises in barbeque meat dishes (but also offers pasta, fish etc). We ordered a mixed barbeque meat dish for two which was delicious and in fact was enough for four persons. Apparently, the restaurantâs generous portions are an added feature. A variety of deserts are also on offer, as well as a large choice of beverages, with the beer being excellent.Staff were courteous and efficient, pricing was very reasonable and credit cards are readily accepted.All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Gostina Mahnic and could not fault any aspect.

Located off the main streets, this little eating house/pub is great for old and traditional cuisine. The tabled dined on a variety of plates and there was no disappointment. I would have to visit a number of times to get through the many plate options - on this occasion though, goulash with potato was my choice. I could have gone for the bread gnocchi or the spinach pancake, but this will have to wait for my next visit.There is a choice of six local brewed beers - the 0.5 litre lager was excellent.The restaurant is only open at night so do not expect a long lunch.There was an eclectic mix of diners from British, Germans, Australians an locals. An excellent suggestion from a family member.You will not be disappointed.

If you like fried frog's legs it can be an hidden gem, if you are vegetarian it can be disappointing.I had decent cheese as an appetizer, good tagliatelle with truffle (the black variety, I'm from Piedmont and used to the real thing), mediocre grilled porcini mushroom.The owner is kind, the wine is good, the price not exactly cheap.I visited it after many years, and I'm not sure I like it as I used to di before.

Sono arrivato qui per una domenica a pranzo con la mia ragazza.Siamo entrati alle 13.10 e alle 13.50 (mentre comincio a scrivere la recensione) ancora non abbia ricevuto niente da mangiare.Fuori ci sono 20 persone al massimo, ma tutto procede a rilento.Noi abbiamo ordinato un piatto di gnocchi del giorno e le costicine di agnello alle 13.30 ma ancora niente.-Sono le 14 ed è arrivato il cibo. Sicuramente non metterò mai 5 stelle a causa del tempo. Al tavolo non ci hanno lasciato nemmeno un poâ di pane o dei grissini.-Patatine fritte (surgelate) in porzione misera, e sanno di pesce come non mai e con una quantità di olio incredibile (foto per credere). Gnocchi di spinaci, 4 di numero nel piatto (come in foto). Alla mia ragazza credo sia andato meglio con le costicine.-Abbastanza delusi dalle aspettative che avevamo dopo aver letto i vari commenti qui su tripadvisor subito dopo aver assaggiato le varie pietanze.-Alla fine:~Gnocchi di spinaci con burro fuso e ricotta salata 5â¬~Costicine di agnello e spinaci 11â¬~Patatine fritte (mezza porzione) 3â¬~acqua 0,5l 1â¬~vino bianco della casa 0,25l 2.5â¬TOTALE: 22.50â¬Costo onesto, sapore non eccelso ma accettabile. VOTO 3, nonostante il buon prezzo, ma lâattesa è stata davvero tanta.

One of the best ribs I have tried. Really tender and juicy meat with caramelized onions and BBQ sauce served with fries and coleslaw. Couldnât decide which ribs were better, ones with caramelized onions or with mustard. Really big portions and decent prices. We will definitely come back!

This restaurant was recommended by a male friend, so I wasn't surprised by the gigantic meat portions they offer. Everything else was disappointing. We waited 15 minutes for the staff to spot us, even though the place was almost empty. When I asked for my leftovers to be packed to go, the waitress brought tin foil and left it on the table for me to pack the food myself. I felt like I was transported 30 years back in time and it wasn't a pleasant feeling.

I have been eating at this restaurant first time in 1989 and I am returning here at least once a month no matter the restaurant is 100 km distanced from my residence.I must say that this is the best restaurant at Slovenian "coast" eventhough you need 10 minutes of driving to the seaside. Easiest way to reach the restaurant is via Highway Ljubljana - Koper, exit Crni Kal and following the signs for Osp. Well known climbing site is just one km from the restaurant which is located 500m from Italian border and is easy reachable also from 10 minutes distanced Port of Trieste. Traditional building was renovated 12 years ago and it really is very quiet and lovely with it's open fire place inside.This is mostly fish restaurant with their specialty - pasta with truffels. I have tried this dish in many places worldwide, but their way of preparation is uniqe and must try. They will offer you also a prosciutto or a steak for guests, who do not like fish, but stay focused on sea specialities.Home made patte from white fish, octopus salad, grancevolla shell fish, uniqe cold starters with mozzarela, everything carefully prepared by chef Majda, tiny lady with golden hands. Wide variety of wild fish from the oven with potato and cherry tomato or grilled, calamari fried (not smelly, but exquisit - the only place in Slovenia, where I am eating them), salads from Majda's garden, all food is ALLWAYS FRESH! Eventhoug I am not a desert lover, I allways have some here - my favourite is Majda's semifreddo di cafe, but you will not miss, if you take anything else, what boss Davorin will recommend.I have red one of the reviews, telling about slow service. Keep in mind, that if ou are in a hurry, go and have some burger elsewhere. The ambient will give you an impression that you are somewhere in Sicilian suburbs and the do not rush, don't they?!Wines (especially Malvazija as a house wine) and a bottle of Le Roi - red, very affordable will not dissapoint you. Try Majda's grappa - brinjevec at the end and if it will be too much for driving, they can offer you a lovely room over the night.

This restaurant is definitely worth a visit for the sake of the unique atmosphere and the great food. The place is small and it is advisable to call for reservation. The owner greets every guest in person and makes you feel truly welcome. Without doubt, it was one of our best dining experiences in Slovenia!
