The Ariake sea region, especially the town of Tara, is famous for Takesaki Crab and Oysters. So obviously instead of taking the expressway from Fukuoka to Nagasaki, my family decided to take the coastal road through Tara to try the local seafood.Here's how Takesaki Kaisen works. You walk in, are given a table, then the wait staff direct you to the mass of baskets where the live crab, shellfish, and produce are displayed. You choose what you want to eat and they take it to your table.We got two baskets of oysters, two crabs (the last female of the day and a giant male), prawns, asparagus, corn, and sausages. More than enough to feed five persons.The restaurant cooks the crab for you - either steamed or salt grilled. Everything else you BBQ yourself at the table.They also provide gloves and prongs at the table. Water, glasses, and aprons are available at a self service counter.The seafood is fresh and flavorful, if a little pricy. Overall, eating here was a great experience.
