If you have been to many small hotels in Japan than you are used to some of the things that I, as a relative first timer, found delightful about Seto no hana. The happy greeting from the staff, sleeping on a futon atop tatami mats and the fresh towels and robe to wear after bathing are examples. The onsen (communal bath) is gender segregated but as a Westerner it is still a novel experience. The onsen at Seto no hana included a big tub where you could soak and through the window take in the spectacular ocean and island vista below. The night we stayed the hotel wasnât full so at the appointed hour we entered the dining room with appetites and hopes of a seafood dinner. We were not disappointed. Dinner was a veritable fruits of the sea, including fish caught that day by the owner, live and cooked shrimp, crabs, octopus, abalone and more. Each course was prepared in a different way with just the right compliments of rice, pickles, sauces and vegetables fresh from the next door fields The food was delicious and I felt a little guilty not eating it all but there was just too much. After dinner we walked outside and took in the night sky. As a city dweller it was nice to look up see stars. Breakfast was traditional Japanese style. This means an odd assortment of items you are probably familiar with but typically not for the morning meal. But if you have an open mind you will be surprised at how good fish tastes in the morning. Plus there is always rice and miso soup to eat if the other offers seem too strange. Seto no hana is a good choice if you want an authentic Japanese style hotel with delicious seafood dinner.

Some of the best sashimi Iâve ever had! We came here as it was one of the only places open in town for dinner - but it was a great find. Delicious sushi and sashimi. Menu is all in Japanese but navigable if you have google translate.
