A former Franklin bartender that I met up with in Portland told me about the great fried buttermilk chicken here, so I had to check it out. I hadn't been to the Franklin for a while. I ordered some of the happy hour oysters on the half shell, which were as good as ever, and the Late Night Lounge cocktail, which was superb (vodka, prosecco, lime, blackberry-lavender shrub) and almost too pretty to drink. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and fried, with sides of Buffalo and honey sauces, hush puppies, and slaw. Love the bar area here, especially with the exquisite tin ceiling. Great service.Thank you for your review. Happy to hear you enjoyed your experience from the drinks to the food to the atmosphere. Hope to see you soon!

Joined friends for lunch about 12:30. The restaurant wasn’t very busy and we were seated immediately with our choice of a couple of waterfront tables. It was a very nice lunch the ladies having lobster salads and the gentlemen having the specials. Food was very tasty and plated appealingly. The reason for only three stars was our waitress. She was abrupt to the point of rudeness. She came to take our drink order and was put out that we weren’t ready with our entire order—we had just sat down. She took our order and another young lady served the food. The next time we saw our waitress was when she was trying to snatch our plates from in front of us. When we asked her to leave one of the plates that we were still munching fries on she threw it back onto the table and huffed off. After finishing we were approached with “want anything else?” And she plopped the bill onto the table. We paid the tab and lingered for a moment finishing our drinks and she approached us and spat out with a little venom, “ok. Thank you. See you next time.” She did the same to another table behind us. I understand the need to facilitate turning tables over, but the deck was far from full, and we didn’t linger over long. There was no need to be rude. Even a great meal is easily turned sour by rude waitstaff.

We had booked into the Quality Inn and wanted a place for dinner. This restaurant is within walking distance. The hotel receptionist highly recommended this place and she did not steer us wrong. One section, the Bratskeller, is a bar style restaurant and more laid back while the Dinnerhorn is a little more up scale. We ate crab cakes at the Dinnerhorn and they were the best I ever tasted. The whole meal was fabulous and so was the service.

I had heard great things about this restaurant, and was disappointed in the service. While the grilled salmon was delicious, the server did not measure up to the quality I expected of a finer, pricey restaurant. He never asked me how the meal was, only returning to my table to deliver the check after I had finished eating.

I was visiting the area and some local friends suggested we head up to Jumpin’ Jay’s for a dinner get together. I had heard of JJ’s but hadn’t been yet. The atmosphere is fun and seafood chic, and in no way pretentious. The service (Bridgette) was knowledgeable, totally fun and engaging. She was terrific! We started with the fried calamari. It’s was excellent! It consisted of calamari, some potatoes, a few shishito peppers and a nice aioli dipping sauce. We also tried the classic Caesar salad. And yes, it comes with white anchovies if you want them (gotta have ‘em!). The salad was classically tasty. For entrees we tried the yellowfin tuna special (there is also yellowfin on the regular menu) and the special served up some different sides than the regular preparation. The tuna was cooked rare per the chefs suggestion. The sushi grade tuna was melt in your mouth good. We also went with the lemon pepper linguini served with shrimp, scallops and mussels. The sauce was a basil pesto and there was just the right amount on the plate to provide great flavor and color. Over-saucers will want to get a small side of pesto. The seafood was cooked to perfection and the made in-house pasta was al-dente and flavorful! There is an ample wine list but they aren’t giving it away. We went with a nice Oregon Pinot Gris (Brooks) that paired well with the food and was just easy drinking. There are also a menu of interesting mixed drinks for those that feel like mixing it up. We looked at the dessert menu but had absolutely no room left. the blueberry shortcake sounded so good (changes in season). We promised we would try them another time as there will certainly be another time during a venture to Portsmouth. Put Jumpin’ Jays on your list for a fun outing with terrific food and service!

What a disappointment. Went here after reading all of the positive reviews and honestly wish we would have gone to a McDonald’s instead. The dining room was so bright it felt like a cafeteria instead of a restaurant. We started off by ordering an appetizer of fried clams which was a small portion that came out in a red and white paper container. They were listed at market price and we were appalled to see that they had the audacity to charge $28 when the bill came. I ordered an El Poloma off of the cocktail menu and received an oversized glass of soda water with a splash of grapefruit juice. Entrees were bland and lackluster. An hour and a half and $135 that I can never get back. Please don’t waste your time. Hello shannonjb52,We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent experience with us. We’re taking the feedback you’ve given us seriously. Of course we try to keep our prices as reasonable as possible while being committed to the high-quality products we use, employing talented chefs and bartenders, and don’t forget those ocean views! While an apology will not alter the outcome of your experience, I do extend it with sincerity and empathize regarding the points you made in your review.
