We visited Alba with my husband's company and dined here one evening. The atmosphere was city, but with 40 guests in the cellar brick-walled rooms it got quite warm without proper ventilation. And acoustics weren't the best. The appetizer--truffle flan in cheese fondue--was served in ceramic crocks kept warm with tea lights. This was the evening's highlight, a yummy cheese soup/fondue with a small fragrant omelett floating in the middle. If we could, we would have licked the bowl clean. Extremely good and worthy of being a main dish. The pasta main course was nothing special, but we enjoyed the tiramisu dessert. Service was ok, they could easily have had 1 or 2 more service personnel for such a large group.

I got the impression that this restaurant has high ambitions and to serve really nice gourmet food. I do not think they meet this level. The best I had was the grilled meat, the rest was unfortunately a disappointment.

Michelin prices but not Michelin quality. Found setting a bit stuffy. Service though pleasant didnât find genuine. Amuse Bouche was bland. Starter of king crab was amazing as was the scallops. Should have stopped there. Risotto too rich and fettuccine though cooked just right also bland. Tooth fish not fresh with stringy texture and overpowered by coconut. Deer steak cooked properly but the sauce was too rich and took away from the herb flavours on the meat. Broccoli excessively covered in saltGood wine recommendation. Good breads to start Think maybe the star rating should not make for complacence but to strive harder for higher levels of culinary excellence

This nicely decorated restaurant is located below the Historic town in the village. The restaurant serves a broad menu of Italian dishes but pizza is its main serving. Our pizza was excellent with a crunchy crust and soft interior. The toppings were a little on the light side, but adequate. We also ordered an solid and grilled vegetables, that were both good. The sizes of all three items were adequate for two people. Another plus was the English menu. The price for all three items plus a large beer, soft drink and bottle of water was just over 20 Euros. Please note that they also have an active carry-out area. The young waitress we had was also a great plus. She was very polite with a constant smile. All in all we had an very good meal and intend to back again before we leave. I strongly recommend Il Camino to anyone in the are of Alba.

We had a delightful meal at Wine Story. Itâs truffle season and, having tasted them earlier in the week, at a modest little lunch spot, at a modest price, we were very keen to sample some more. This time the waiter brought a basket of deliciously stinky white truffles to choose from. Our chosen truffle was weighed, and a price per gramme quoted. Did we work it out? No. Truffle was ceremoniously grated over all our food. Delicious! When the bill came, the price for the truffle, scribbled in pencil on a piece of paper, came to 95 euros. Dearie me. At first we thought weâd been taken for a ride. But other guests at our B&B told of a 195 euro truffle, seen at a local restaurant earlier in the week. Truffles are apparently like diamonds - the bigger ones command higher prices! An experience and a half . But one that will break the bank if repeated soon. Service was excellent and the restaurant went to some trouble to accommodate dietary requirements.

Our dinner started very well with excellent appetizers, antipasti (both gamberis and rabbit were succulent) and pasta dishes. No question about the quality of those: beautiful presentation of nice products. Unfortunately we were disappointed by our mains: the traditional "Piemontese" (excellent meat, original treatment, but rather heavy and not particularly adapted to to the location) and the lobster (very ordinary treatment with raw vegetables) ... probably not the wisest choices from our part. Service good but irregular. Amazing wine list, obviously of local bottles but also of wines from other areas. Prices very reasonable for the quality of the dinner. The dining hall is large and pleasant and the view is spectacular. So a very good evening but unfortunately also with some mixed feelings.
