First impressions, as you drive up to the hotel, are not favourable. Architecturally think Motorway Travel Lodge. Having said that once you walk inside you are in a different world. This is a smart hotel that specialises in impeccable service from the moment you enter the dining room until you leave. Like many travellers on the nearby ferry service to Portsmouth we arrived after a long drive. The location was excellent both for access to the ferry terminal and also if you want a walk on the beach before dining. The staff were efficient and charming. The maitre dâ and many of the waiting team speak impeccable English. After a long drive one should hesitate before being overly critical of the beautifully presented food, so to say that the food was excellent (without being outstanding) should be viewed with that in mind . My wife and I opted for the set meal (2 courses circa 28 euros, 3 courses circa 35 euros). A starter of creamed mushrooms with truffle oil was really really good. The main course of veal steak on a bed of boiled potatoes with sun dried tomatoes was very good but not exactly inspiring. There is a small (thank God) wine list that is imaginative and sensibly priced. All in all, a very enjoyable meal in wonderful surroundings overlooking the beach and the sea.Would I go again? Yes, certainly.Dear Sir or Madam,We would like to thank you for your recent stay in our establishment and for taking the time to fill out our customer satisfaction survey. On our first evening of our road trip to Tuscany we ate at this great restaurant. The food was fresh and well cooked. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The convivial atmosphere made the whole dining experience even better.I had half a dozen oysters and then moules mariniere. Gorgeous, and at 30 euro a head great value for money!

This was a friendly, well served restaurant. We had mussels, creme brûlée and a 13.90 menu of fish soup, mussels and creme brûlée. Having tried other more expensive restaurants in the town, this one stood up well. The portions were of a good size and our waitress was warm and helpful.

We used to eat in one of the restaurants on the square by the ferry terminal but switched to here due to the influx of people trying to get a free ride to the UK hanging around the car park there. We have a house in France and regularly pass through Ouistreham on our way home and look for somewhere to eat a quick meal. We have really settled on this place as the food is top notch, it is served really quickly and the staff are really helpful and friendly. We have eaten here dozens of times and it never disappoints. Moules Frites is recommended as is the Veal Normande... sublime!

We enjoyed our meal here but think there are other better restaurants in Courseulles-sur-Mer. The fish is quite fresh. Our bill with drinks was 57 euros.

We arrived for lunch without a reservation and were lucky to be accommodated as the restaurant is clearly popular with locals (on our day, several small parties celebrating occasions). We were seated very quickly and had a lovely water view. As Canadians, we were there to visit âJuno Beachâ so to be able to look down at the beach was particularly moving. We got our drinks quickly and had time to peruse the diverse menu. Our server recommended the dayâs seafood special which two of us ordered and he was bang on! The other two meals were equally pleasing. There was ample servers for the lunch hour crowd all doing their job effectively. We enjoyed the meal, the service and the location and felt lucky to be accommodated at the last minute. (We found street parking, but learned later there is ample private parking). In brief⦠loved it!

This restaurant is right on the coast, across the road from the beach, 50 metres away.Plenty of parking spaces available.Needless to say both from the terrace and inside you have good views of the sea as you dine.Only go here if you like seafood and fish, the selection and quality are excellent. We dined here on several occassions ( evenings) in June and had great meals/food very time. A reservation is recommended so that you are not disappointed as it gets very busy, we witnessed several groups being turned away as the restaurant was full.Has a limited but reasonably priced wine list. The staff are friendly and helpful, despite being busy. Always a good atmosphere.Looking forward dining here again when we return to Normandy in September

I was a bit dismayed on arrival when I discovered that I couldn't have my pre-ferry assiette de fruits de mer. But I quickly found that I could have all the seafood I craved in separate portions. Fantastic peppery whelks, crevettes served with a mayonnaise speckled with fresh coriander, and more varieties of Normandy oysters than I knew existed. Because the establishment is both a seafood bar and shop, you can sample a lot of products and then buy them: artisan tins of sardines, fish rillettes and - my favourite - the hand-crafted butters flavoured with smoked salt or seaweed. This isn't a restaurant per se but if you've had your seafood feast and are still feeling greedy, I can recommend their perfect lobster rolls. The decor is light and seaside modern with quirky touches, like little rubber sea urchins stuck to the wall. After our bottle of organic Muscadet, it was great to just flop into our ferry berths soon after and groan with pleasure.
Where to eat French food in Luc-sur-Mer: The Best Restaurants and Bars

We stayed in Lion-sur-mer for six days - and we ate at La Taverna three times - I guess that sums up how much we enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere! We undestood that it's a family driven, all-year-round restaurant, so it won't just close down when the tourists go home - in other words, it has to serve good quality food to stay in business when the only customers are the locals. And good quality it is; honest and good tasting. In my opinion, their fish dishes is outstanding. Try the aile de raie or the sole - just wonderful! And the prices are very reasonable, too. The only thing on the menu that was quite mediocre was their desserts - except the icecream, maybe.Anyway, the desserts do not change the fact that we loved the place and that we most certainly will come back when we return to Lion-sur-mer.
