It is always a little off putting when you discuss with the hotel reception where you have made your reservation for dinner, and they have never heard of it. Indeed it took a little encouargement for the taxi driver to locate the Ciglieri too, but we made it. For those planning to come here who are staying in the centre of the town, be aware it is a fair distance out of the town centre, and you will definately require a taxi both ways.Once you have arrived the initial welcome is warm, but on the night we were there only one other table was occupied and even that for only the first part of our meal. It is a small restaurant, but even taking this into account it makes for a slightly uncomfortable feel.Although I can speak reasonable Italian my dining partner couldn't, so I asked for a menu in English. Despite there being one on the web site this is not available in the restaurant. In my discussions with the owner I tried to establish what type of fish they would serve us as everything on the night we were there was described as 'pesce nobile'. My discussions were not fruitful, I was sinply informed that it was the fish of the sea.As far as the food is concerned the menu is certianly seasonal, which should always be applauded. The Antipasti were perfectly adequate and well prepared. We had decided that we would not have a Primo (pasta course) but in retrospect I wish I had as the portions are quite small. The fish in the secondi itself was cooked well, but looking at what was presented to us in terms of justification of the pice charged, it does not make this value for money at all. (Secondi are charged up to Euro 40) I have to say that the Zabaglione I had as desert was one of the worst I have ever eaten. I mentioned this to our waiter who did not take kindly to my comments. In my travels any criticism from the customer is usually taken on board by the staff with the grace that any of us in the service industries have to show our customers, however much we may not agree with what they have to say.The wine list here is stunning, an absolute treasure trove of delights from all over Italy.I came away feeling very sad, and i must admit hungry. We had gone for a Birthday celebration, it will certainly be one to remember though not for the right reasons.

This is a hidden gem. Located round the side of the Hotel Grande Pallazo (almost in its basement) the food here was simply brilliant and the young staff were very good. Its not pricey at all. We were ridiculously overdressed on our visit so dress casually..Signora Keith buongiorno,Gentilissimi vi ringraziamo con affetto x la sua sincera Recensione, Vi riaspettiamo presto nella nostra Terrazza Garden EstateCordialmenteLa PERLA dell'Ostricaio

This restaurant is famius for its fish dishes however we prefered some meat dishes which found to be delicious. It is always crowded so it would be a good idea to have a reservation. The prices are good, about 40⬠per person with wine. As most restaurants in Italy they don't speak English but the staff is really polite and do its best to serve you.

This restaurant is a little aways from the train station/city center but offers a great view of another section of Tuscany! I guess you would expect that such a restaurant at this location would be overpriced with mediocre food, but we were pleasantly surprised by both! Two words of caution, we almost didn't get seated on the patio because we came at 3 pm. There is no "warning" on the restaurant's website so plan to eat lunch earlier in the afternoon. Second, getting a cab from the restaurant back to the city (or in our case the train station) takes a bit f time and we ended up missing our train. So just another thing to plan accordingly for ahead of time.

We came to Livorno as it was our last night and we didn't really like Pisa, so we thought we'd travel out for our last night. We arrived early hoping to get a happy hour cocktail before heading to the restaurant. But it was dead with not much atmosphere. But it was nice.We were then in a panic that the restaurant we'd booked on ta would be closed. But no. Full of Italians having lovely big family meals. We were worried they'd not speak English but brought an English menu, all the staff were really lovely. We shared the fish filled pasta to start, followed by the prawn stew and Italian steak and a ginger bread ice cream. Best meal of the holiday. Steak and prawns were amazing!

We made a reservation from Pisa and drove to Livorno. Traffic was pretty bad on Friday night but it was worth it. Parking was a nightmare and we ended up parking illegally but got away with it.We had a party of four and we all ate fish - it was excellent! Very fresh, tasty, nicely served and very local. Service was nice too.

High quality food, but the staff was quite rude with us, since in a crowdy night, standing and waiting for being called to catch the food, we did not paid attention immediately. I realize they are in a hurry not to make people wait too much, but I still believe that spending a nice evening can't confuse respect with efficiency. The choice is yours.

This restaurant is a little bit out of the way but well worth the effort to get there. Beautifully presented dishes with seafood, fish and excellent steak choices. The head chef was available to explain the ethos of the restaurant and the manner of cooking and presentation of each dish.If you are spending a few days in Livorno don't miss this one.

Went here for dinner, we were 15 minutes early but got ourselves seated outdoor. Once the doors opened the staff looked a bit strange to us and asked if we had a reservation (which we had not). Anyway, we were allowed to stay and we got menu's and a bottle of water. We ordered a starter and a main. Starter was raw fish, one 3 (salmon, cod and tuna) and tuna with small salad. A (pretty big) bread basket was served and after 20 minutes the starters were served. The cubes of fresh raw tuna were huge! Also the quality was very very good. Lean cuts of tuna sashimi with citron and olive oil. Also the 3 -types of raw fish sashimi were vey well made up. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. Slowly the place started filling up as well, outside was for around 70% full an inside for more than a half. Inside is quite big, we did not see the inside till we left as there was another entrance at that side (and we entered via the terrace). We both ordered the same main dish. A local "livornian" cod dish with potatoes and tomato sauce. The cod was breaded and covered in sauce with potatoes. The taste of this dish was also more than perfect. We ordered tiramisu as dessert and after another drink we left. Staff was ok but I would say they could be a little more friendly, won't say it was bad (not at all) but they could do better. Maybe it had to do with the fact we just got ourselves seated at the terrace before they opened (don't know, but there was no one so what was the other choice). Anyway if I ever return to Livorno this one is on the list!
