This restaurant was recommended by the Tourism Office near the train station. It's a wonderful "hole-in-the-wall" that unless you read Japanese you would likely walk past it.No English menu. Just order the Tuna Set for Y1600 and enjoy a wonderful meal with salad, soup, rice, and three cuts of tuna, plus tea. We sat at the counter and watched the chef slicing tuna. He is a master of his craft and a very gregarious man. "Oishi-desu" indeed! Two women helping him are from Thailand and Philippines and very friendly and somewhat helpful for English-speakers.Open daily 11a-2p and 5p-9p. Go!So glad we came here and certainly one of the best tuna sashimi meals I've ever had!

We decided to try this place for lunch and we were spot on.Set meals ( main course, soup, rice, appetisers) were averaging between 1100y to 1600y depending on what you order - there were fresh tuna fish, fresh mix fish, mixed tempura, fried chicken, and eel set. Lunch opens at 11.30am and closes about 1.30pm - restaurant gets crowded very fast with only about 20 seats.Chef speaks English though no English menu.

... they seem to be one of the few restaurants that don't maintain ridiculously limiting business hours; many places are not open early or close between lunch and dinner, and almost all close immediately following dinner (5-530-6pm), this restaurant is open from 11am until 9pm.Also, the food is really good. (&btw... you can mehari with your hands)

One of the best meals we had in Japan, and in a slightly obscure gift-shop-cum-lunch room 100m walk up from the main falls car park! Tables at the window overlook the falls and beautiful green valley below. The food was excellent, freshly prepared and very reasonably priced. Most of the crowds donât wander further than the cluster of restaurants around the falls or below the temple; their loss!
Had wonderful dinner at kanpachi with my family during my trip in kushimoto. We ordered the sushi course which included some local fish. We forgot the names of the fish, but they were very fresh and tasty! The restaurant is friendly and warm atmosphere. Although the chef and his wife donât speak English, they tried hard to make our dinner special. I recommend this place for those who come to this area.

The menu is available at reasonable price even in dinner time. Bonito dipped in their original sauce, rice, seaweed and hot tea were served separately. We have to make chazuke with them by own. The restaurant staff explained me how to do, when she served it. It was nice and something not available out of the restaurant. The bonito was fresh and not fishy at all.
