We were sold on the views alone and only wished we'd known about the accommodation before booking somewhere else.We had a shared seafood starter which would have done us as a main. The Gurnard main was delicious with sweet potato fries and my partner enjoyed his Wrapped chicken dish. The older couple who bought drinks ad food seemed to lack any charisma and we re more interested in watching television which was a bit off.Food not cheap but very good portions and tasty.Good walk up and down the hill and along 90 Mile beach. Yes would recommend the food here even though we'd been told it could go either way., we were very happy with what we had.
We had a weekday lunch here recently while on holiday. We had walked the main street of Kaitaia looking for lunch spot - passing bakeries, takeaways, sushi, Indian and finally found Rab's Kitchen at the far end of town close to the Info Centre. It is in the old commercial hotel building - tastefully renovated and with an outdoor eating space as well.A large range of sweet and savoury baked goods avail - so tempting - but we choose from a small lunch menu. Husband had the Hamburger with chips - huge offering with tender meat patty and plenty of salad. $17 Question do you eat with knife and fork - or do as hubby did - wrap in napkin and go for it. Very good was his verdict. I had Asian slaw with calamari rings. $14. Lots of colourful slaw with a lovely dressing, topped with calamari rings. Very nice and filling. Too full for a sweet finish. Coffee was very good, but what I most appreciated on a hot summers day was the choice of flavoured water available on a self help basis. Flavours included citrus, fruit, cucumber, limes. so very nice and a great point of difference.Eating outside in the covered corridor on this hot day was good but inside would have been just as nice. I understand that the ingredients are all sourced locally. A great addition to dining options in Kaitaia
