L'Ocean is an excellent restaurant with very good food and a lovely ambience. There is an inside area and terrace - you can take your dog!

I am surprised this restaurant is no 3 on trip advisor - the mere fact it is right on the coastmay account for that and then the seafood is excused. There a few cabana or shack restaurants around the coast- they are attractive because they are rustic and simple and the food speaks for itself.Yes it is busy and wait for a table as there is no reservation system. The service is very mediocre with few staff run off their feet- so typical of France as a result of their employment laws. The restaurant is very exposed - it was an intensely hot day and none of the umbrellas were up which I found strange but give them credit hats were availableNow for the food.We had stopped at fish market over the bridge and were able to see for ourselves the wide choice of fresh fish available. The only fresh fish let alone any fish available was dover sole grilled on the skin in flour and oil - not very interesting no herbs and with potato.-22â¬The reviews state how amazing the oysters - this is not a standout there are so many outlets on the island that provide qualityThere were no mussels. The langoustine supposedly 'fresh' from Scotland were absolutely terrible - extremely mushy and still frozen in parts - I suspect straight out of the box and thawed.Obviously the crevettes were imported This place is just a tourist trapStrongly suggest if you want the authentic experience go to Cabane de la Faneau - sublime tranquil setting nature they farm there own prawns and it shows.Their oysters were on another level - sublime delicate taste without an overriding saltiness like many other place

A fabulous experience from start to finish. Seafood at its best from source to table in a few hours. Atmosphere perfect, host warm and engaging, staff attentive and helpful. This is one of those experiences that we will be remembered for all the right reasons. Would I go back, absolutely. If you are in the area and like seafood, definitely go here. Well done to all at Le tout du Cru!

We stopped here for lunch on a cycle ride. It was sunny, warm and the restaurant was heaving. La Rhetaise feels more of a cafe really and there was an incredible mix of customers. Large, local family groups, tourists, couples, young and old. And it was easy to see why. The Oysters are fabulous. I have tried them a few times in the past and frankly, gagged. These are in a league of their own. Fresh out of the tank - you can watch the owner fishing them out before shucking them to order - they had a gentle taste of the sea. It was also one of the few places thappy to serve a mix of sizes too. Our main dishes of clams (palourdes) - especially the ones grilled with pistou - were just sublime. Service was friendly and table water and bread bought to the table straight away. This was our cheapest meal in two weeks and one of the best. The local wine included in the price was good too. If you are even vaguely in the area, make an effort to go. You won't be disappointed.

This was our last day on Il de Re and we wanted something relaxing and good for our young family. We hit the jackpot!!Superb fish, wonderful service and great value. What a difference from the overpriced tourist fare round the harbour Oh - and amazing craft beer (from The waiters home village)!!

Old maritaise institution l'escale reopens its doors after a complete renovation in 2018 located in the heart of the charming village of la noue we'll welcome you in our bright and cozy dining room or our shaded terrace the chef yoann leraut and his team
We enjoyed the food. We felt that the restaurant was not as friendly, attentive or receptive as some of the other restaurants we visited over 2 weeks. Perhaps the restaurant tends to focus on regular local customers and is not as well geared to us foreign diners.Nice but not our favourite.

Wed stopped the previous for a coffee, the atmosphere and staff were very inviting, so we went back the next night for food and weren't disappointed. We didnt have kids with us, but there was small children's area which assume is appreciated by diners. Would go back again when next in La Couarde sur Mer

We felt very welcome as a family with three kids, their food was brilliant, especially my daughter's fish (lieu jaune) was cooked well and served with excellent mash. For dessert the kids had very good chocolate cake. My wife and I enjoyed the set meal.It was a fitting end to our holidays.

This is the closest restaurant to our hotel (Fleur de re). We went there to eat and just prior to ordering my husband drove around the corner to our hotel to get jerseys as we were sitting outside. The waiter then came to take our order and in the process of ordering I realised I needed to recheck the order with my husband. We are travelling from New Zealand with four children. The waiter said the kitchen was closing and he couldn't wait. This didn't make sense as there were reserved tables still inside and we had been told to sit outside as they were still waiting for guests with reserved tables to arrived. I told the waiter my husband would only be 2 minutes but he persisted in asking where he was and how long and saying I needed to order now as they were closing. In fact they were not closing. The aspect of the menu I needed to clarify with my husband was that the waiter wanted us to order a platter for each person and we had four children with us which was difficult to navigate. There also appeared to be items on the menu in French which weren't in the English menu. We speak some French but we are from New Zealand and they clearly do not want any overseas visitors here. Particularly when my husband returned within minutes they pretended to understand no English at all. So we couldn't eat there as we were told they were closing but then other people turned up who were served. They told my husband an odd story about how the previous day someone had said they were going away for a few minutes and returned an hour later and that's why they had told us the kitchen was closing which didn't sound true . Very upsetting experience for a family travelling from the other side of the world with young children, and unusual rudeness . The kids had been really excited about the restaurant. I don't think the owner understood how rude the waiter had been to us although the owner also didn't really care.Itâs a real misunderstanding. Stangers people are always welcome, but even if we try to speak english, it can be hard to understand each other. It was late and cold, the night fall soon, we accept to give us a table without reservation outside, but the husband start but donât explain why and if i twill be long. Itâs a restaurant, the waiter try to understand, had to take command before we close the kitchen, but the woman was very affraid without his husband and quickly very angry. They donât eat there, even if there is no problem at the return of the husband wich is understanding , they choise to start ; its a failed for everybody !
