OK so this is fusion cuisine. Not Japanese or Korean. There's some usual fish to try. I went for the Kanpachi yellowtail - noted for its sweet flavour and firm texture. Mine was delicious and tender. Came with cauliflower coord with turmeric also delicious as were my fries.Thank you for your review we appreciate it.

Nestled alongside a quiet lagoon, our fourth restaurant, and the first to feature the upstairs, upscale Top of the Market, has been a dining destination for bay area residents since 1982. This beautiful restaurant also features a full-service cocktail bar
Both waiters and the kitchen were overwhelmed by the packed restaurant. This was Sunday of Labor Day weekend. But most annoying was that they took a reservation for 6 with a request for deck seating. After being strung along, we finally went outside to look and discovered that there are no tables for 6 on the deckâonly for 2 or 4. Many of these canât be put together without blocking the walkway. Yet, they strung us along until it became obvious that there was NEVER going to be a time on a busy night where two of the relevant adjoining tables would be available. Why not just say so when 1) Taking the reservation; or 2) Upon arrival? When we were finally seated indoors in an undesirable location (because we waited for the phantom table outside), food was cold, overcooked and a drink was forgotten. They gave us a couple of appetizers and a beer because of the messed up food, but the overwhelming experience was very poor.TravelRab - Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your dining experience. Although a Peninsula landmark since 1982, Top of the Market in San Mateo is almost a secret discovery above the bustling Fish Market downstairs. This intimate restaurant overlooking a quiet lagoon evokes the sophisticated charm of the classic, timeless ba
This restaurant is one of the top 3 on my parents "go to list". Well, my curiosity has been answered. The environment is very nice, they have a beautiful outside patio dining area and the staff is very attentive. As for my meal, it lacked taste, presentation and just an overall disappointment. I ordered the "special" Salmon which looked like it had been boiled, it was very pale and looked ashy white. The potatoes were dry which comes from sitting in a steam pan too long. I big letdown considering my parents enjoy dining here. But, I believe in second chances so I'll give it a try one more time. Oh, the clam chowder I had was enjoyable.Onebreakfast - Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your dining experience. Right up front, let's get this straight, I like this place. So much that I requested my Son and his wife take me there for Father's Day when they asked. Note: due to schedule conflicts, Father's Day this year was observed on Friday night. Now that the intro is out of the way, let's get to the food. We started the evening off with Crawfish Hush puppies, Oysters' en Brochette and Ahi Tuna Taco Tare Tare for our starters split between 4 people. We paired those delicacies with a house rose` wine, Raspberry Vodka Lemonade, Maker's Mark Manhattan, and a Light Amber Ale going around the table. Perfect, perfect!!Entrees wise, in that same order, we individually chose Buttermilk Brined Fried Chicken, one Mardi Gras Menu with Shrimp CreoLa entree, Shrimp & Crawfish Ãtouffée and I had the one pound Crayfish special. Great Scot, they were really good but quite a mess to eat. The rest of us passed our plates so we could all sample the unique flavors and tastes of true New Orleans Bistro cuisine. Yes, to die for!!!Now to the sweet part of the trip there. Try a slice of Pecan Cheese Cake (included as part of the Mardi Gras menu) and one of my all time favorites, Bread Pudding. As usual, we all passed the items around so everyone can sample and comment. Exquisite, they were that good!!Happy Father's Day to all the Dads (and Grand Dads) out there.
