Brunch Spot in downtown Sydney and the headquarters of The Mermaid Food Truck, which you can find all over Cape Breton. Dedicated to local ingredients & good food for everyone!
was disappointed after reading the glowing reviews for this restaurant. we arrived on wednesday Aug 8 shortly after 8 am. there were 3 items on the hand written menu at the counter...eggs benedict, a breakfast sandwich and yogurt and granola. the eggs benedict was not available until 9 am due to the hash browns not being ready. sandwich was ok, very heavy since it was on a cheese tea biscuit, and the yogurt could not be an issues since it was yogurt, granola, grapes and honey.I'm sorry we couldn't make you happy on your last visit. I hope you try us out again and we can make it up to you.

Restaurant, bar and coffee shop. Glace Bay's place to Take a Load Off!
We were greeted and promptly brought to our table! The decor has changed and improved. The menu has also changed with the new cook. Our meals were tasty but we waited for a very l-o-n-g time to receive our meals! The waiter was very pleasant but he had so many tables to deal with. The hostess (owner I was told) could have poured the water, checked on other beverages, etc. but she did nothing but sit up front after seating people.Helping with the above would have allowed the pleasant server to deal with delivery food.

What a disaster. First impression made me want to leave as the whole place felt completely austere. Okay, actually, my first impression was hopeful as the setting is ideal. Inside, as I said, austere. Was this an attempt at NYC chic? Crappy little paper napkins on the table, like from out of one of those metal holders with cheap, plain cutlery. Prices for lobster, exorbitant. Okay, it's a tourist trap, if the food is great, no big deal. It was explained that risotto came with a whole lobster, so why bother cracking my own. However, lobster so salty as to be inedible, so small as to be guaranteed a canner, probably frozen and reheated. Risotto was boring and plain with a few peas thrown in and this mini, salty tail and claw and a half on top. For $50 this was a total rip off. My friend had the haddock, with nasty, chunky potatoes (not mashed as per description) and coarsely breaded haddock. Cold veggies and certainly inadequate for the price. We did tell our server we were unhappy and then never saw anyone again. No one cared, no one asked, no one got a tip. My tip? Do not bother. Oh yes, after enquiring extensively about gluten free, the risotto plate came with a big bun on it. Thankfully on a charger plate. Hello!

This is a cafe at best. As this is located on the wharf I assume it captures cruise ship people. There is very little originality with the menu. Our waitress was fabulous. Very helpful and informative. Sadly our meals took 90 minutes to arrive. Clearly a mix up in the kitchen. The food was over cooked and bland. We were offered dessert to compensate the meal disaster and as generous as this was, the desserts were stale and tasteless. This place is a tourist trap.

We dropped in for a coffee after a visit to Louisbourg Fort. They were suffering a power-cut (residual work following hurricane damage) but still boiled some water for coffee and provided cake. Both tasty enough in the circumstances.Friendly staff and still made to feel welcome despite the circumstances.

Ate at this restaurant recently with my daughter and mom whilst on a family vacation. I had the lobster mac and cheese and it was soooo good! Garlic and lobster served in a cream sauce gratinee to perfection with two nice pieces of toasted garlic bread. My mom had the bed tenderloin cooked medium. She liked it very much! My daughter had the fries with chicken nuggets off the kid's menu. Very tasty. The wine selection was ok, they could have had more than 1 wine in the reds and whites from Nova Scotia. Service was friendly and on point. I would eat here again

My daughter and I went for supper on our first night in town at Governor's based on a recommendation from the craft store owner (who happened to be married to the owner). Great food, staff and atmosphere. We went back for our last supper in Sydney and it matched our first experience.

The Miner's Village Restaurant is housed in a replica of a Coal Company house where many mining families lived their lives in the mining town of Glace Bay and surrounding areas. I grew up in a Company house very similar to the homes featured at the Miner's Village Restaurant and Museum.

Food made with love for those who love food. We specialize in small intimate dining that is not suitable for children. We take reservations for parties of 6 or less as we are a smaller restaurant.
We had such an awful experience at this restaurant. We arrived on a Thursday at 1.45pm, the restaurant was almost empty (just 1 table of two people), when we entered with our son, the waiter looked at him with an evil look and shouted at us, saying âno, go away, we are full. do you understand? We are full!! â. We could not believe it. The other waitresses just looked in the opposite direction. We were voiceless to have such a bad welcoming. He could just have said nicely that it was a no kid policy restaurant rather than being so aggressive and disrespectful. People who came out of the restaurant told us that the service and food was not good, so they recommended us to go to Black spoon instead that is 2 minute walk away.Wow. Exaggerate much? You read the sign that said " dining experience best suited for those 12 years and older. You scolded your husband who turned to leave but you decided to look for a confrontation with my staff instead. The two staff you got were the owners.myself and my wife. Not every restaurant is for kids and the earth doesn't revolve around yours. Lighten up, you are on vacation. Maybe instead of waisting time on reviews that nobody really cares about, do some research and plan a bit better so you won't be so bitter. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

This has a variety of food and we ate there once while in town. The food is good and the service great.
Our meal hear was one the best we have ever enjoyed in a restaurant. One dish was the seafood pasta and other was the blackened seafood medley. Both fresh and delicious. The service was great and everyone was friendly. Highly recommended.
