Nomo

With the proliferation of all you can eat, cafeteria style decors and average sushi, Nomo is a special find. Located at the old Wi Sushi location in the blue haven plaza, they have transformed the local into two distinctly beautiful seating areas. The decor rivals any trendy similar place in downtown and yet it sits with a nice size parking lot in the West Island. Since its debut I’ve had the pleasure of going 3 times and was floored by the quality and taste of the food. The restaurant is perfect for a date night with a significant other, or hanging with your friends. Lots of interesting tapas dishes and the sushi dishes are wonderful, Nomo roll is a must. If you are looking for a different experience this is it and I would rival it to Maiko or Aikawa as direct competition yet in a much more intimate setting. Can’t wait to go back and introduce more people to this wonderful gem.

Let Daniel and chef Michael entice you with the house specialties. This is a BYOB restaurant which is a bonus, all you have to concentrate on is the food. Everything is fresh and prepared onsite. Even the bread is home made.Definitely worth the drive to St Dorothy Laval!

Group of 40 women getting together for an end of the year gathering .We got the beautiful back room gorgeously decorated with lavish paintings .There was a fixed menu of soup or salad .Seafood soup or salad .Salmon or filet mignon or breast of chicken with with grilled vegetables or fries or baked potato. And dessert and a glass of wine each and coffee or tea . Very private . But with a large crowd it’s hard to please everyone . The side of veggies or fries came way after we ate our main course . The filet mignon was delicious! I usually don’t eat meat but this restaurant is famous for meat and whoever chose this they were not disappointed at all .Free parking .Clean washroom.3 choices for dessert : chocolate mousse cake with ice cream , strawberry shortcake which was. Not strawberry shortcake, and I cannot remember the last one .

Bistro Nolah

We named our restaurant Bistro Nolah, an acronym for New Orleans, out of a love for the style of comfort food they serve down south. This style of food will be the inspiration behind some of the dishes we will be serving at Nolah.

I so much would like to give a better review because I have always been most pleased with Bistro Nolah in the past. Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed to be off its game last Friday night. The night started off well enough. The complimentary hushpuppies and biscuits are a wonderful alternative to just plain bread, and we were fortunate enough to be able to sit outdoors, where it's a lot less noisy than inside. The Bistro's terrace is particularly nice, and you would never know that you're fronting on the parking lot of a small commercial strip centre. The problems began with the wine. I ordered a tempranillo, one of 3 red wines being offered by the glass. When I tasted it and shook my head, the waitress asked "Too dry?" before I could say a word, which tells me that perhaps this wine should have been taken off the menu. She then recommended the pinot noir, which she said would be "light". Well, it was light all right. There was absolutely zero body to the wine, and I had to decline it as well. Finally, the 3rd selection was adequate.Next came the soup of the day, which was a tomato bisque. It was very disappointing. It was far too thin to be called a bisque, and it wasn't very appetizing to see droplets of oil on top of the bowl.Dessert was also a disappointment. The texture of the flourless chocolate torte was more like a thick mousse than a torte, and the caramel sauce over the torte made it cloyingly sweet, despite the waitress having suggested that the torte would be the better choice if I wanted something less sweet than the mud pie.I saved my comments about the main course for last, because this is what saved the meal, and why I will give Bistro Nolah another try. The blackened catfish was truly incredible. Flavourful and with a wonderful consistency to the fish. Not cheap at $30, but a generous portion and well worth the price.Hoping for a better overall experience next time.
