Not too impressed with this place. My flat head was really dry, chips weren’t great and the home made lemon and dill aioli wasn’t very nice. Staff had no personality, didn’t pay attention or listen properly. Pretty slack to be charging $8 for cider when there isn’t any ice and it’s put in a plastic cup. Saving grace is the view!

We were in Coolangatta for nearly a week and then discovered Raw + Rice. What a find! The cafe is on Marine Parade in The Reflections Tower at ground level. The decor is simple and fresh with views across the road to the beautiful Greenmount Beach. Sitting on their front deck in the shade from the hot sun was bliss. We were made most welcome as we entered the cafe. The menu is self explanatory with options including the cafes set dishes or creating your own. The choice of fresh local produce is mouth watering. We could choose either salmon, tuna or trout. I chose raw tuna. There was also available white fish, tofu or chicken. My tuna was laid on a base of quinoa and then the freshness added by the way of wasabi peas, bean sprouts and mixed greens. The dish was then completed with a tasty sauce. It was the most refreshing tasty lunch. Perfect to energise you for the afternoon. If you surf, the poke bowls available at Raw + Rice will keep you going all day. I chose fresh water to drink, but Karma Cola and Kombucha are available. This cafe is perfect for the Coolangatta area and will become iconic.

Top notch $10 Fish and Chips service. Fresh and ample portions size. Great variety of fish and other family meal options. Have either crumbed or battered. Friendly service from owner who has obvious pride in his produce and quality Korean Chef who in addition has a number of Korean options on menu..Nothing fancy but fresh. The $10 fish and chips with salad is a bargain and you have a choice of grilled, crumbed or battered. Our barramundi and snapper were nicely done and portions reasonably big. Chips average. No tartare sauce provided. When we went, there was only 1 person doing the cooking and taking orders, so expect a wait if it gets busy.

Where do I start with Obala? Not only are the views of the beach fantastic but this little gem is in close proximity to a multiplicity of hotels & apartments which makes it an easy an pleasant walk to & from dinner or lunch. The service I experienced was great, not only was the clock about to tick over for happy hour to end but the lovely waitress gave me drinks at happy hour price because I was only a few minutes over, now when you’re experiencing something as little as that, it makes a colossal difference to your dining experience. The food was delectable & the atmosphere was fantastic. If & when you’re in Coolangatta or Kirra Beach next, Obala is a must!

By chance we passed Georges on our way back to our hotel, and on reading the menu displayed on the window we were amazed at how reasonable the prices for pasta,& seafood, and even the drinks were. So naturally that was our dinner choice venue that night, No bookings, but suggest you arrive early as tables fill quickly and the restaurant is not huge. Service and food were good and it is located opposite the beach. We will certainly be back next time in Cooley.

North Kirra Surf Club

Came here with friends. The renos look great, amazing view of course, plenty of tables. The place fills quick but empties just as fast. People did not seem to hang around even though it was Sunday and there is live music. The staff seem friendly enough and were clearing the tables quickly. The food however could do with some tweaking. Every meal is ginormous but I think they sacrifice flavour. I had the roast vegetable salad, but I probably wouldn’t be call it a salad. It was literally big chunks of roasted mix veggies on a bed of plain cous cous. I was expecting the cous cous to be flavoured with some kind of spice, like Moroccan and maybe have some sultanas through it to give it the flavour it needed. It was a huge plate of bland food unfortunately. My hubby and friend both had the Asian pork dish, which actually had a very nice flavour, but again it was enormous, with a tonne of rice. There is only so much sticky sweet pork a person can eat. Even my hubby couldn’t finish it. If they reduced the size of the meals and concentrated on the flavour, I think they would be onto a winner. The other let down is there is no cake cabinet. You wouldn’t know that they served dessert unless you asked, which is what we did. Another let down, as there were only 3 options. I say get a cabinet in there and put it on display. The desserts were amazing when they came out so I don’t understand why they don’t advertise them.
