I came to Santa Maria di Castelabate completely by accident and found this fantastic spot next to the attractive small beach. From the outside it looks more like a bar, and I was only expecting a simple lunch, but in fact I had really good one. It was mid September, so not busy, which maybe helps.

Heard from locals that they changed the chef and decided to give it a try on our recent return. We were positively surprised with quality food and service. The octopus carpacio was the best i have had. Delicious pasta. Nicely prepared fish. A bit annoyed with hidden extras like sides. Well done to return.

This is one of the incidences where you do not judge a book by it's cover- although the exterior of Duca Dica is not inviting, the food and value make up for what the establishment lacks in decor.I have eaten here several times with locals and with my family members from the U.S. The restaurant is very clean and the pizza, seafood and antipasto were all quite fresh and tasty. Service was attentive and courteous. We enjoy sitting in the small dining area which faces the sea- quite pleasant on a cool late summer evening. Air conditioning available in the larger dining room.

Really nice atmosphere (for couples, ask for tables at the entrance, each table has its balcony with stunning view). Food is good, better main course than starters. Some dishes are gourmet and very rare to find here around, and worthy to taste. Had some small problems with orders, but bad management of the problem was worse than the problem itself (I read very similar comments about, maybe some improvements on this aspect are auspicable). A very large wine selection was available. Finally, price was fair. Suggested for special occasions.

Put this dining venue on your list of must visits.Remarkable value for high quality food - even the house red wine was impressive.Be comforted the stellar reviews are accurate and La Nonna is the icon.Location may not be instantly appealing but everything else compensates in abundance.

Our Il Parnase, Castellabate dining experience is one for the books! We've prepared for four months doing research on a longest of five extensive trips to Italy, having only three poor meals in eighty or more dining establishments in the process scores of fine wines and a few that broke "the top ten". I Parnase made it to our top five with the added elements beyond great super fresh food beautifully prepared and presented. The kickers here were amazing value and a passionate, widely knowledgeable husband and wife team who grow many of their own vegetables and cultivate their own fresh meats of multiple varieties on extensive tracts, as well as pick one fresh fish daily for those otherwise inclined. The menu is fairly wide in scope, eclectic, bends a little exotic for those so inclined and incredibly reliable for those who don't. It is frequently updated based on what's fresh and in season. The views from Castallabate high up on a mountain above the sea, an Marco and Santa Maria are legendary, and Il Parnese sits near the top above all of it with panoramic vistas rivaling those of the Amalfi Coast. from which we'd just arrived that afternoon.Turning to the specifics: we began with a few gratis homemade thin tostada like EVOO fried crisps, full bottle of water, half of white wine and half of red both of very good quality for the price. My wife and I shared two pastas which we were advised to take one at a time on split plates so as not to confuse the taste bud bumps on our respective tongues' road. The alleged half portions (totaling four for the two of us) were as large as about half the regular pasta orders we've had in Italy as full sized primi. Each was of course homemade from flour (eggs) and water: the first a tagliatelle with baby thin asparagus and pumpkin flower/fiori in a wonderful rich cream sauce that somehow remained light as well - such balance in not one bit overwhelming the other more subtle elements. Our second pasta was as good as a ragu gets, one of the top three anywhere. I generally find ragu sausages disappointing: much too heavy, often with bits of dry, hard buckshots of nondescript meat and cloying tomato bordering on thick syrup in texture. It was explained that this ragu consisted of a carefully balanced melange of very fresh meats, mostly or totally from their immediately contiguous private farm property, and tomatoes that remained light while slightly pungent in seasoning and of intense yet subtle flavor. The homemade thick pasta had a wonderful al dente bite to it as well.We had previously been warned to hold off on ordering two secondi (how many restauranteurs say such a thing to their clients) given the quantity of food we'd ordered. So glad we split that single order as well: a tie for the best chicken cacciatore I've ever had. I'd almost picked the lamb, rabbit, goat or some other option, but was talked into it after expressing how I never order the dish out anymore. Its too often either falling apart or worse dry, over spiced (usually with oregano and overcooked garlic) and drowning in a paste of red reminiscent of ketchup. Here we had very fresh perfectly cooked chicken (fresh from within 300 yards) with herbed tomatoes where all elements complimented rather than competed one with another for attention. Our two shared (half) orders were very close to a full size second in many other establishments. The contorni were very interesting: one a simple medley from what's freshest in garden in a veggie light stew that cleansed the palate, the second a WOW stuffed cheese and herb cabbage that was fabulous and as different form its partner dish as could be imagined. We were almost too stuffed to finish our delicious wild dark berry lemon cream sponge cake, two complimentary orangecelli and coffee (one cappuccino and one cafe). Here's the finishing touch, the piece de resistance on our "one of five best meals: in two months of Italy thus far. The total cost including reduction : an astounding E50! This high a quality of meal in New York would have been a fine deal at over $100 and in most of Italy -without the lovely environment and vistas- easily E80.Don't miss the opportunity if nearby and be sure to reserve rather than roll the dice in higher seasons. We are returning in three nights for our last meal in the area, and are very infrequently disposed to repeating an appearance, however positive, in restaurants while traveling.thanks for amazing words....and wait here for tasting more "cucina dei ricordi"....grazie

Lovely place, simple food, mainly fish and traditional recipes. We tried a variety of starters, 2 different first courses (paccheri and scialatielli, two home made kind of pasta), with seafood and some vegetables. Everything was fresh and delicious. On top, the wonderful, quiet and peaceful atmosfere by the sea (the place is right on the town harbour). I would recommended, and definetly we'll go back this year.

Donât be put off by the reviews saying this is a bit to aâ la carte. The food is exceptional - amongst the best. Itâs a lovely chilled and relaxed setting in a court yard. All the little additions and the service make this place. Food is so beautiful - a big thanks to all the staff.
