Reviews on Seafood food in Ayutthaya, Ayutthaya Province, Thailand. Built just to the east of the spectacular ruins of the capital of the Ayutthaya kingdom, a Siamese power destroyed by Burmese invasion in the 18th century, Ayutthaya is a modern Thai city studded with archeological wonders. Headless Buddhas and crumbling but still-beautiful reliquary towers and wats give evidence of the majesty of the civilization that was once centered here.

Baan Watcharachai occupies a nice location by the Pa Sak River opposite the striking Sri Suriyothai pagoda. The place itself is a lovely house with some collections of artwork and antiques. It also has a lovely garden setting. When you eat here, you feel as though you are dining as a guest in someone's home.I bring the location up first because, frankly, the food was not all that great or memorable. And everything will burn a hole in your pocket. The river prawns were of good size and expertly grilled. Food came quickly here, but maybe it should not. Other dishes we had fared less well, both in terms of quality and quantity. Our two fried fishes could make a poor man weep. The fried chicken felt like it came straight out of a freezer. Nothing was that fresh to begin with.Service was not professional, and the staff seemed to be confused as more guests walked in. There are better options in Ayutthaya, to be sure.

Apparently the tree started first, with the restaurant beside it,then as the business grew they went around the tree and enclosed it.we were there for lunch, 9 altogether, so we were able to have a good selection which we shared. All very good and good sized portions, so we left well fed and satisfied. As others have said its on the river, and its pleasant watching the ferries and barges on the river. One tip take your mosquito repellent as they are always about. Worth a visit if you are in town.

We found this to be a very good place for an afternoon drink and snack. The view of Wat Phutthaisawan Temple was nice, as was the constant boat and barge traffic. Service was fast and friendly, and the drinks were very reasonably priced. When we left for our dinner reservation it was filling up and looked like a popular place with the locals.

We went here as it was recommended by some other guests at our hotel. We actually ate better, and much more cheaply, in our hotel! This restaurant has a nice view over the river and the fish is freshly cooked. But, by Thai standards, it was not cheap - 500 baht a head for three courses each and a beer or coconut each. I would recommend the shrimp. But beware the spicy soup, unless you have a mouth lined with asbestos! We were told it would be mildly spicy.... We had some deep fried sea bass, having been deterred from ordering the steamed sea bass as it would have taken 40 minutes. Our version was dry and, apart from the garlic, with which it was smothered, it had no taste. We ended with some ice cream. That was really bad, as it was so artificial. The service was mixed, with some friendly and some distinctly grumpy waiters.

Had dinner on the outdoor terrace overlooking the river at night. Ordered the Tom-yam-kung soup (spicy soup with pawn) and 2 large grilled river pawns at 700thb each. Soup was served in a large hot pot and quite authentic. The grilled river pawns was large and full of meat (said to be in season). We enjoyed the meal.

Visited this place today for lunch while on a day trip to the historical ruins of Ayothaya; a romantic abode by the river this place serves finest quality of fish and prawn preparation. The hospitality is also worth mentioning including welcome drinks and polite and prompt service.

I've been there with my girlfriend for Christmas'eve. The place is beautiful. Right in front of the river crossing Ayutthaya with a terrace that is literally on the river. The atmosphere is very relaxing with the boats passing at your side. We got the shrimps, which are not bad but not worth the price you pay for them (700 thai baht each). Personally, I think the real deal is their Tom Yum Goong with shrimps. It's a soup with lemon grass, cassia leaf, galangol, onion, cherry tomato and shrimps. So much flavour and freshness. This is about 300 thai baht (normally it costs between 130- 180) but I have to say is the best Tom Yum Goong I've had in Ayutthaya. The place is expensive and with European prices (it is like eating in a good place in your country), but once in a while it's worth.

Best thing is location right on the river on two wooden boats and good views of the river. Very typical Thai dirty dusty untidy place. Speciality is the grilled giant prawns which are very tasty but flesh is very hard. The prices for this special dish is super super high, with the biggest prawns costing 1,500 baht each. Other dishes are OK with OK prices. Staff are indifferent and disinterested. Service very very slow.

We went to this lovely restaurant several times as it was so close to where we were staying. Good choice of food, tasty and reasonable price. Lovely sitting right by the river watching the occasional boat and barge go by. Fireworks going off in the distance added to a magical first night in Thailand.Cheery man singing and playing a guitar added to the atmosphere. They also do dinner on a boat that goes round the island and this looked pleasant although we did not do it. Service slightly variable but a delightful waitress even if we could not communicate with her very well. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
