Things to do in Alatri

Great service from friendly waiting staff. Accommodated all our needs. Good grilled meat and salad. Delicious house wine and amaro. Set just outside the gates of hill town of Fumone with staggering views over the wall to the valleys beyond.

When our Greek group of adults visited Alatri this summer not only to study italian lessons but to experience the traditional goodies as well, La Rosetta was a nice surprise for all of us. All spaghetti dishes and antipasti were excellent, wine delicious, salads very fresh and light and never expect to eat the longest size pizza ever served on the table...pizza with different tastes, ingredients and an unforgettable crust. La Rosetta with its helpful service and the full "happy faces" of locals Rooms, is a Must for every visitor. I hope to come back...

I was both privileged and pleased to attend a luncheon feast at this converted historic olive oil factory in Vico nel Lazio, when visiting a lifelong friend who lives in this town. The menu is amazing and the quality of the food was beyond all my expectations.I have added stars for each dish if that helps you decide, but I seriously doubt the young chef who works here could ever produce an average meal. The order of the food was (and remember most of this is inside me now and I am a little light-headed): Barley Soup***, Parmesan and Pumpkin mousse*****, Ricotta and Truffle terrine****, Cheese (can't remember the type but it tasted smoked and was fantastic), with chicory and prosciutto on toast***. That was the antipasto. Then the pasta - Ravioli filled with Porcini Mushroom and Truffles********** (I can die happy now - this pasta was incomparable to any I have ever eaten), then Spaghetti with blistered tomatoes*****. There was serious debate after this course as to what to have next - the parties eventually agreed on calamari, prawns, grilled eggplant, zucchini and potatoes*****. There was also a basket of the locally made bread**** on the table which you have with the locally produced olive oil. The dolce (sweet) was a plate of three desserts - panacotta, creme brûlée and a sweet pasta with custard, cream and fruit. I cannot personally provide a critique of these dishes as I do not eat sweets, but the smiles on the faces of my fellow patrons seemed to indicate they were pretty good. I did have some of the fruit compote, which was elegantly prepared and was fresh and delicious. There was coffee and liqueur on offer, but I think by the time we got to this part of the meal I was unable to move my lips to say no thank you and just waved the owner away. Vico is a medieval town in Frosinone and if you make the effort to visit ho on a Friday, Sat or Sunday when this place is open - you will not be disappointed. I am sure to remember this meal for a long time.
We came here for lunch, on Easter Monday on a recommendation, and were not disappointed. The area is not rich with seafood restaurants, and this is a great choice if youâve eaten often in the local more meat-loving places. The restaurant has recently opened, but was obviously already well known and busy. Service was excellent, and as attentive as you might expect with all the competition around. The menu has all the usual favourites you might expect for an Italian fish restaurant, but with some really great variations. Portions are huge (as normal around here) so for 5 people we took 2 starters, 2 primi 3 secondi and 3 desserts and were completely satisfied. The mixed seafood antipasti was varied - my favourites were moscardini (little octopus) - tender and not overly salty; fried anchovies - crispy outside and not oily; and a marinated salmon that was mouth melting. Of the two primi I canât say which was better. One was a spaghetti âtrasparenteâ - with mussels and clams and shrimp in a red sauce, perfectly al dente; the other was linguine with clams and broccoli with an amazing texture from a kind of peppery breadcrumbs. Totally delicious. My main course was a tempura of shrimps that were really fresh and meaty with just a very thin crisp outside, but I didnât get a taste of the baked sea bass that we also ordered as it was grabbed so fast! Finally most of us chose a sorbet, that was mixed and blowtorched at the table, a perfect end. In total we paid just under â¬50 per person, including bubbly, wine, coffee and digestifs. This place is really worth a trip. Actually, the best meal Iâve eaten in ages!

So, you are in this small town in Ciociaria region, in the middle of Frosinone countryside and you find a place like this, nice, cute and with a very very good food! Awesome! You can see since the beginning something different, the bottles of wine are very sophisticated Italian producers. Than the menu, good, wether meat or fish (another unexpected surprise) and of course with fantastic pasta dishes. The service was very warm. If you are around there, must go.

It's not often that you visit a restaurant with a large group and come away feeling that the service has been really personal and the food delicious. The owner, Paulo, greeted us all like long lost friends and then proceeded to serve up dish after dish of great antipasti - various hams and other meats, a kind of Italian bubble and squeak, plates of roasted peppers and salads and spelt with ham. The piece de la resistance though was the four desserts - tiramisu, crème caramel, et al - that were irresistibly yummy. The restaurant itself is quite tucked away on the via Duomo, with a cool interior and converted from an old stable. Alatri itself is worth a visit to walk along a small part of the Appian Way.
