the Glencoe Gathering

Reviewed By Charlene F

We came across Glencoe Gathering late in the afternoon in need of some tea and coffee and some refreshments. Upon entering we already regretted our choice, we were the only customers there and instead of staff offering help we were stared at by 2 members with no greeting at all. Eventually an older member of staff approached and once we asked if they would be willing to serve just hot drinks (it was nearing dinner and we did not know if they would be serving), we were rudely asked what we wanted without being seated or shown menus. After asking for a standard tea and coffee, we were told to sit wherever and after quite a wait got served some watery, tasteless, barely warm drinks. Upon finishing, no member of staff returned to us so wanting out as quickly as possible we walked up to the till to pay and this time the member of staff printed a receipt and took our payment without a single word to us! The whole experience was uncomfortable, with extremely tasteless and overpriced drinks.Dear guest Thank you for your valuable feedback, will discuss with department heads , sorry we where unable to meet your expectations. Kind regards

Isles of Glencoe Hotel

Relaxed lochside dining over looking the pap of Glencoe and the small islands of Loch Leven. Our menus is built around local produce and you'll find as much care goes into our infamous doorstop sandwiches as a dish of freshly landed langoustine.

What a wonderful surprise, after days of tiny hotels and nondescript breakfasts, and in a stunning location! A large clean modern room with plenty of space to unpack and repack, a large lounge area with a lake view for a predinner drink, a very lovely hotel dinner and excellent hotel breakfast the next day. And who knew I would like haggis? An option at the buffet breakfast. All staff went above and beyond to be friendly and helpful. Definitely consider this spot as you tour the Glencoe/Ft William area.

Roaring log fires, peaceful surroundings, a cosy atmosphere and over one hundred years of traditional hospitality make the Ballachulish Hotel a real highland gem. Our staircase is creaky, some floors a little on the slope, but our welcome is warm our food

The service was very hit and miss. Breakfast was self-service. Evening meal must turn up at precise time booked. My husband and I turned up 10 minutes early and were told we would not be served until our allotted time. I asked if we could sit at our allocated time and was told we could. The second night we asked if we could sit near the window as we had been promised we could. We were told 'if we have no tables near the window you can't.' The Manager then asked one of the waiters to prepare us a window seat. The waiter did this begrudgingly. I went to order a drink at the bar as we hadn't been offered the wine list. Whilst waiting at the bar the waiter asked my husband to order the meals. I had to return to the table to find a disgruntled waiter agitatedly waiting for our order. The meals overall were good. However there is very little haggis in the haggis starter and was not as described. On one occasion a staff member came over demanding I return to our hotel room as my dog was barking. It wasn't my dog who was barking, when I discovered this I asked whether the owner of the dog was going to be summoned as I was.; she ran away.I got the distinct feeling customers were a nuisance to the staff, who would rather we weren't there. Today the access we had us3d to enter the restaurant was locked.

Absolutely lovely, staff are doing a great job keeping all the offers up to date. We went in, plenty of car parking as it’s shared with the CO-op and other local shops. They have plenty of tastefully set tables. They run a prepayment system that works perfectly for eat in and take away (but could be better signposted). Between us we had bacon roll, sausage sandwich, scone. All fresh, tasty and well presented as well. The cappuccino was perfectly well made. They have lovely cakes - for another time. We had a glance at the wraps and ciabattas - lunch looks promising! Nice Scottish Celtic music in the background. WiFi worked a treat.

We walked over from a nearby B&B a couple of times and were welcomed without a reservation. The dining room is attractively decorated and has a log fireplace. The staff is young, friendly, and competent. Both times we ate here the food was of good quality, well-prepared and (what I like best) piping hot!

We booked a family room, which is two adjoining rooms one with a double bed, and three bunk beds in the other room with bathroom. It has plenty of room for us, a family of 5. The food at their restaurant was worth overeating for. I had fish and chips and had my eyes on their pasta and lasagna the second night but they get really busy. So, we checked with them and the wait was 20 minutes, so decided against the splurge. The location of the inn cannot be better. It is the first stop from the ferry and watching ferrys come and leave between 6:30am and 9pm was quite unique. It was the natural wakeup call in the morning. We also drove on the other side of the loch that doesnt require ferry to Glenfinnian and isle of Skye and it was worth it. I would stay here again without second thoughts. Leave rush behind when you come to the Inn at Ardgour. They also have a recreation room in the back with books and games.

After being turned away from a busy restaurant in Glencoe village we were delighted to find a table at The Laroch. The food and service were excellent but unfortunately we were charged for a bottle of red wine instead of a glass. We didn't notice this till the next day and this was obviously our own fault but I emailed the restaurant about this a couple of days later giving them the full details of our meal and names of our servers but have not received the courtesy of a reply which is disappointing.Hi there. Delighted you enjoyed your meal with us, but really sorry you were overcharged for your wine. We are actually away on holiday at the moment, and so our emails aren’t being monitored as they normally would be. We will be back home in a couple of days and will make sure you are refunded for the mistake. Kind regardsEileen

Stopped here on way to Loch Ness looking for a light lunch. We weren't disappointed, two choices of homemade soup. I had the tomato and basil with a cheese scone and delightful combination. Other half had pea and leek with bloomer bread, obviously I carried out quality control testing - yummy! An amazing selection of cakes but I was too full.Watching all the birds at the feeding station just outside the window was amazing.Thank you very much for the amazing review. We are delighted that you had a great lunch with us. Your quality control is very important. I do quality control for our home baking. Like you, I understand it's a difficult job but someone has to step up to the mark and do the job.. We hope you can visit us again.
