Reviews on Scottish food in Campbeltown, Scotland, United Kingdom. Campbeltown; (/ˈkæmbəltən/ ( listen); Scottish Gaelic: Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain or Ceann Locha) is a town and former royal burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies by Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre peninsula. Originally known as Kinlochkilkerran (an anglicization of the Gaelic, which means "head of the loch by the kirk of Ciarán"), it was renamed in the 17th century as Campbell's Town after Archibald Campbell (Earl of Argyle) was granted the site in 1667. Campbeltown became an important centre for shipbuilding and Scotch whisky, and a busy fishing port.

The seafood chowder was amazing! The hosts give great attention to detail and the service is impeccable. The accommodation upstairs is lovely and it was wonderful to be able to walk down to such a good restaurant and indulge.

Very pleasant and efficient service and good sized / value meal portions. Our late lunch was shared with quite a few locals, so the venue is obviously popular with those who know. Not fine dining but tasty and fresh offerings and well worth seeking out.

Food was cold and tasteless. We could also hear a family member using bad language. We paid and left and didn't want to query it incase we ended up on the receiving end of the bad language. Lots of talk of using local produce but the owner goes to Glasgow weekly to stock up.

Eat in the conservatory restaurant with stunning sea and island views and the beach only metres away. Great value set price meals in relaxed surroundings of the Argyll Hotel.
My wife and I stayed here last friday night for 1 night bed & breakfast, and booked it through Booking.com Now I'm not brilliant on computers, it was last minute decision to go to Campbeltown. So I typed in B&B Campbeltown and the Argyll came up £90 so it was booked. As I was booking it , there was only 1 room left so I had to act quick. We had our evening meal which was average, service was ok.Next morning after having to roll out of bed with a very sore back with the bed being very uncomfortable not what you would expect from a £90 a night for, came down for Breakfast, both ordered full breakfast, tea and toast. Well this was only cooking in a pan full of OIL everything was floating in it. I lifted my potato scone and the oil just ran off it, we both just ate what we could. Also had to ask for our toast, and we were the only ones in for breakfast at the time, no excuses. On leaving I took the case to the car and my wife paid the bill. When she came to the she told me that they had charged an extra £15.90 for breakfast, which was a bloody rip off, because I had booked through Booking.com Partly my fault for not reading the booking properly, so if you call the Argyll direct its £90 B&B Booking.com you pay £16 for a breakfast ( sorry a plate of greasy oil) Needless to say I won't be back to this one. To whoever I spoke to on the Phone regarding this WE were'nt told our breakfast would cost us £16 if known this, I wouldn't have stayed. Our other nights stay could run circles round you.David, for whatever reason you have taken a dislike to Nick and I - hopefully this will end it. Your particularly nasty form of patronage is not welcome here - I have donated your full stay to the local lifeboat as we do not wish to benefit from your stay - and since your wallet is the driving force behind your vitriolic review, we hope that you agree with this donation on your behalf. Please do not ever come back - I will be sharing my experience of you, your stay, your reviews and your rude and high handed attitude with other hoteliers in the area, to see how we can filter out guests such as you. I will be taking up your attitude, rudeness and hostility with booking.com and with tripadvisor, these forums should not be allowing your bullying tactics and providing you with a stick to beat us. goodbye.

Upscale but casual dining featuring seafood, steaks, salads, and many chef's features in a comfortable dining environment. Fine wines, beers, and other beverages available.
We had 3 nights in Campbeltown and ate in a different place each night. The Harbourview Grille was the best of them, albeit the most expensive, but I suppose you get what you pay for! Excellent food - the seafood penne pasta was the best ever although I have to say the portion was so large I didn't manage to finish it! The staff and service were good. All that after a poor start - I asked for a pint of bitter and was offered stout. Thanks for joining us, Ian, and for sharing your feedback. We're so glad you had the chance to experience Campbeltown and enjoy our fresh seafood during your visit! We're certainly generous around here - with both delicious flavour and portion size. We hope to welcome you again if you ever return to the area! -Greg Sherwood

Went in to eat this evening, poor selection of beers. Barman indicated when asked that they were not serving food in the bar due to the hotel restaurant being busy and short of staff, fair enough despite one customer finishing his starter and awaiting his main course. So a bit of a suprise when the other person behind the bar proceeded to take food orders from a group of 6 women, obviously local. A couple were sent through from the busy restaurant to be told no food, so they left. We finished our drinks and went to a decent venue, The Feathers. Service was non existent, excuses were pathetic, communication was appalling. No need to go back.Dear Alec, Thank you for bringing this situation to my attention. We care deeply about our guests and strive for perfection, and Iâm sorry that your experience failed to meet our standards. After speaking with our management team and restaurant staff, I can assure you that this was an isolated incident and we are taking steps to ensure that our standards of service are never compromised no matter how busy we are. In instances in which the kitchen is very busy, we like our guests to know that our service time may need to be adjusted as a result. However, under no circumstances do we feel itâs appropriate to tell our patrons they cannot be served, and I personally apologise for the inconvenience and lack of service you encountered. In truth, the staffing shortage lasted no longer than an hour, and our team should have asked if you would prefer to enjoy a drink while you wait for the issue to be resolved, or to take our shuttle to Machrihanish to try one of our sister restaurants. We will be meeting with our restaurant staff to reiterate protocol for situations like these, and I truly hope you give us a chance to welcome you back in the near future. Sincerely, Greg Sherwood

The restaurant menu is mostly local produce. The staff are absolutely lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. The night we were there is was quiet; a mixture of locals and sailing crews. Sailing crews can get a meal and a shower if arranged in advance. We had the gluten free fish and chips made with the draft gluten free pilsner! The local cheese board was very good. The table service was exceptional. Other tables were enjoying three glasses of whisky on trays.Hello catherinemL8442JBThank you for your review and comments. Our kitchen team continue to work on gluten free/vegan menu options along with catering for our dietary needs. Our whisky flights are very popular. I hope we can welcome you back again soon.Kind RegardsAmanda

I would highly recommend this cafe for it's great service and fantastic food. The waiting staff were run off their feet but nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a lovely lunch. I had the New York Beef Burger - it was just perfect - whilst my partner enjoyed a cheese and onion sandwich. The plates came loaded and the food was GOOD!
