Sill & Dynamit

We spent 4 days in a cabin close by, touring the lakes, and ended up eating at Sill & Dynamit all 4 nights ! First off, the location is gorgeous, right by the lake, with magnificent views. The restaurant interior is very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and the tables are very inviting. Fredrik the owner is a lovely character all to himself and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately, we very stupidly forgot to ask the name of his wife, so a special thanks to her for seeing us off so warmly on the last day. Also unfortunately, we (again very stupidly) forgot to ask the waitress who served us all 4 times her name :( She was extremely attentive, professional and flawless in her duties, even when the restaurant was full. Now the food, oh the food ! We are very frequent travellers, and have tasted from the very best to the very worst. Sill and Dynamit, in our opinion, ranks clearly amongst our top 3. We literally tasted almost all the starter and main dishes on the menu over our 4 nights, and all of them were absolutley delicious, carefully thought out and fantastically presented. They also brew their own beer, which we recommend you try !

Really don`t recognise the restaurant from previous reviews!Service was brisk and efficient, even though we don`t speak Swedish our waitress was helpful and polite.Location is superb, very peaceful, beautiful setting.Food was excellent, having eaten out many times in Sweden, can honestly say the marinated salmon was one of the best.Food was well presented and inexpensive compared with some venues150 sek for burger, 220 sek for salmon ( about )

Rasta Mariestad

What a disaster! This restaurant (also a hotel, but I dread the thought of even staying here) is probably one of the most memorable meals in my life because it was a disgrace! We tried three different options on the menu and they where all disasters. The meats were tough, and hard, the fish dripping in a sorry mess of what was meant to be a sauce, and meatballs covered in masses of brown gravy that tasted nothing but - gravy. Albeit the places seemed fully staffed with young people, possibly without sufficient cooking and catering skills, but this place desperately needs a work over by renown chef Gordon Ramsey, or they should take down the sign "Restaurant". What a dump! Stay clear, unless you are in dire need to top up your petrol.
