Cafe Routier is ultimately consistent with great service and fine food and a trendy atmosphere. The coolest thing is the 3 panel menu: monthly choices (changes 12 times per year), seasonal (changes 4 times per year), and their specialties (always there). The best thing is the house made fries and dipping sauce - get them while you decide. Seems strange but they're outa this world. I always get the steak frite; awesome steak and fries. But their fish and other dishes are all great. The bar makes good craft cocktails (the Vesper martini is a must). Worth the trip anytime!

If you're a donut person, this is a must try. A bit more dense and hearty than your standard donut (compared to Dunkin Donuts or Crispy Creme). Great donuts!

Liv's is the brainchild of John Brescio. He is a French Culinary Institute-trained chef who worked at Tavern on the Green and Judson Grill in New York as well as Aux Delices in Greenwich. Liv's is names for the Brescio's young daughter Olivia, a photogenic tyke whose black and white blowups grace the walls. 'The combination of easy comfort and really good food makes Liv's Oyster Bar in Old Saybrook such a find' - The NY Times.
Tried Liv's Saturday evening. Ordered dinner of scallops, portion is appetizer size and obviously precooked as we were served within 5 minutes after placing order. Wife ordered swordfish which was slightly larger portion but also precooked. Restaurant is noisy, overpriced (a la carte entrees $28 & 29) precooks its meal, service was fine & friendly but would prefer watching a movie at this theatre turned restaurant. Will not return.

One of our favorite summertime stops on the shoreline! Good food and ice cream. Clean, bright and friendly staff. Look forward to it opening every year.

Live shellfish to take home: lobsters, muscles, steamers, clams, and oysters. Quick and ready to eat hot lobster rolls, sausage peppers and onions, and hot dogs.
At the suggestion of a friend we stopped at lobster landing for the lobster roll. This is basically an outside stand under a tent with outside seating under the tent and on a deck by the water. The places serves 3 items. (1) Lobster roll (2) Sausage sandwich with peppers and onions (3) hot dogs. They also have small bags of chips and cans of soda. The lobster roll was $17 the sausage sandwich $7 and the hot dog $3 something. We tried all three. All three teams come on a grilled hotdog roll. The lobster roll is a hotdog roll stuffed with lobster and melted butter. The lobster was fresh and excellent. The other 2 sucked. The sausage was over cooked and had a bad flavor. It was tough and the peppers tasted like they had been sitting in water for a week. The hot dog was equally bad!! ( how do you mess up a hot dog??? ) well anyway the lobster roll was delicious and I would recommend it but only that . This place was a little off the beaten path as well so I am sure you can find a lobster roll of equal quality with a better selection somewhere in the Connecticut /Massachusetts area!!! I would only recommend this place if you are not going out of your way and only for the lobster roll. The service was good and the staff was excellent.

Operated by Culinary Chefs offering traditional American, gourmet, and international breakfast and lunch.
Everyone who was having their breakfast/lunch/brunch was so content. I have never heard so many complements thrown at two short-order cooks in their tiny space behind the counter, in this small, narrow restaurant, (probably the width of a train car, and no longer) with one row of tables, opposite and parallel to a lunch counter, with a sunny entrance and the frenetic bustle of 3 waitresses running around meeting everyone's needs.
A little gem on this Sunday around noon, when they close at one.

My husband and I decided to try Haywire, based on the many good reviews. The waitstaff are very perky and helpful. There is a nice selection of beers, and lots of burger options. Our fried calamari appetizer came very promptly and was nice and hot. However, the calamari were unpleasantly chewy. The burgers were very good, and cooked to perfection. My husband's fries were crispy and tasty. My zucchini fries...not so much. They were heavily breaded, and the zucchini was so thinly sliced that it was practically mush within the breading. Will definitely consider returning for a great burger, if that's all we want.

Love, love, love this place. The selection of prepared foods is bountiful and every single meal I have had has been excellent. During a recuperation from surgery, my co-workers brought 6 different dishes from PV for me and everyone cooked perfect. Service has always been outstanding. If you don't feel like cooking, go to PV and you will have a home cooked meal in minutes!

This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. The food is first class; we had a collection of tapas and salads rather than a large entree, and were thrilled with everything. The wines are good and affordable and the service was very good, even with a packed restaurant. We went at 6 on a Saturday in November and it was full but we got in. Next time I'll make a reservation. I live in Boston but it's almost worth the drive to just eat here.

Had High hopes here. That was quickly dashed when I got my burger which I requested med and got way over done. My lunch partner ordered poached pear salad but couldn't eat the pears as they were off tasting. When I told the server all this all I got was sorry about. Really ... well sorry about that I will NOT be returning" . Best get your act together Penny Lane.... too many much nicer places close by. BYE BYE !!!
