We had just arrived at Quivey’s Grove, just outside of Madison in the area of Fitchburg, Wisconsin. A property featuring a restaurant in a historical home, along with an adjacent restaurant called, ‘Quivey’s Stable Bar & Grill. The cream colored brick of the Greek/ Italianate fieldstone mansion, blended into the white snowy landscape of this cold winter day; although, the scenery appeared much different when looking back and to the right. The old stable boldly stood against the stark surroundings of winter. Deep red in color, it beckoned, drawing us inward. The restaurant and Stable Bar opened May 23, 1980 – both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original stable was built in 1855, while the entryway and main bar were added in 1989. The effect is quite remarkable; it is hard to distinguish between the newer and the latter. Nearly all building materials from the recent addition came from other 19th century barns; unstained hand – hewn beams… Walls of the original stable are comprised of stone 20” thick, while hand – hewn beams on the first floor are made of walnut. Nearby tables were constructed out of old wagon wheels by a couple of Wisconsin woodworkers. The second floor is also comprised of antique building materials and historical artifacts. There are several exciting pieces for historians to relish, although the American flag circa 1855, is a reproduction – count the stars, there are 31. Another exciting feature of the property is a stone tunnel built in 1980. The nearly 100’ structure was created using nearly 50 tons of stone. The gate for the tunnel wine rack and the metal work for the Stable Bar lantern, were the crafted by a Wisconsin blacksmith. The house itself is not only a restaurant, but also a museum. Eighteen inch thick walls, thirteen foot tall ceilings, floors of original unstained hemlock, walnut newel post and bannister – all beautifully authentic. Many political cartoons of the mid 1800s cover a wall, while other nearby walls remember Abraham Lincoln. Of interest is an “extremely rare” etching of “Lincoln and his Generals.” We were able to partake of a fabulous meal in the Stable Bar. The fish fry was most enjoyable. I highly recommend the Middleton Perch - pretzel crusted fresh lake perch fillets. The helpful staff of Quivey’s Restaurant, Bar & Grill were most courteous, they await you.

I was in town to meet some friends and I found this place to try out. The latte was great and I had a slice of quiche that I thought was really good. Like another reviewer I found it odd to have a salad on the side for breakfast. Maybe fresh fruit would be a better accompaniment in the morning. They had four different kinds, but BOTH people working there were vegetarians and hadn't had two of them. I don't know, but it seems like it should be a job requirement to taste everything there so you can have some first hand knowledge of the product. FORCE A BITE DOWN PLEASE. Aside from that it was great!

This DQ was hopping, the staff attentive and the food extra fresh and hot. Tables were kept clean between customers, though roomier with more seating than most DQ's we've visited, there was barely any time between customers leaving and new ones arriving. Arrived hungry, left happy. Generous sundaes, a DQ ice cream dream.

This was our first visit to Sugar River Pizza and it won't be our last.We had a delicious vegetarian pizza with a whole wheat crust and it was absolutely delicious! The menu had a lot of different choices and the service was outstanding as well.

We visited this unassuming, but surprisingly high quality place and had a wonderful lunch! Everything is farm to table and made onsite. The All American burger was one of the best I've tasted! Your lunch selection includes one cold side dish, which you select from the fridge. They also serve craft beers, and they have a dinner menu as well. Very charming place, and I would definitely return.

Culver's was great as usual. We try to visit Culver's each visit to the mid-west and always find them to be very good. The variety of ice cream certainly make Culver's a place to stop if you are looking for a great treat!

This is a quaint and fun mix of a fiber arts store (lots of great yarns and fiber for spinning), as well as coffee shop and cafe. Definitely make it a stop when you are in Verona!!

Probably is very good, even excellent some meals, but I've even ordered the same dish and it was just slightly different and sunk below very good the second time. It's an ambitious and interesting menu that extends beyond the bar burger portion of the menu that they have to serve to stay solvent. Very good choice in the dining desert of Verona and I'm very happy to go there rather than fight the Beltline to downtown some days. (Let's be honest, this restaurant if it was 400 yards east would be in Fitchburg, it's out in the commercial, industrial zone with more restaurants and a hotel and not on the fast food strip that had pretty much defined "dining" in Verona until they opened.)
The wine list is New World focused which I understand but the red wines served room temperature at 72F need some chllin. I feel odd to put an ice cube in red wine but my dining companion doesn't, that works.
Those hard surfaces in the dining room make it noisy but the booths might be more quiet and a number of people I know eat in the bar especially if there's music which is a HUGE plus in Verona.
Good restaurant and happy they are here with an interesting menu.

I came in for lunch and the waitress was very mean to me. She acted like I was less than human, I'm not sure why. There was a couple that came in right after that she was really nice to. I don't know why. I must be the wrong color or maybe I didn't look nice enough, but I thought I looked... It really started to make me feel like Wisconsin is faux liberal and just as prejudiced as some of the worst places for racism in North Carolina and other parts of the country.
