Parked and went up to the window. Nice greeting and offered to wash my cup out. Ordered my coffee and asked for water for my mother. My two adult daughters came up to the window and I said to get them whatever they wanted.
For some reason there was a chill and when I walked away the atmosphere seemed awkward. My daughters are Hawaiian and they felt as if they were being studied.
The coffee was good. The service ok and then strangely silent.
No harm done though.

We stopped in for dinner. I love the huge tree the outdoor patio is located under. Unfortunately the meal did not meet our expectations. I had an Asian salad that contained limp lettuce and had mustard in the dressing. It just didn't seem to be a good combination. My friend ordered the spaghetti and found it "ok". We appreciated the jug of water they brought to our table as it was a very warm day, and it was as warm indoors as outside.
If I had known the menu was as limited as it was for that particular day, we would have kept on driving.
I will return, but for the breakfast meal only.

Your last chance to get some 'Merican coffee before you cross the border. Pretty much standard issue drive thru coffee stand.

Was in Tonasket last week to participate in the area's wine harvest and discovered La Ultima. This a no frills place with terrific food at value prices, authentically prepared and served with a smile. Don't go if you want alcohol with your meal, just go if you want some tasty Mexican fare and friendly conversation. It will be a regular stop on my occasional visits to Tonasket.

They have wonderful food!!! Scrumptious salads and to die for sub sandwiches. They also have a tasty soup of the day!!! Don't forget to finish your meal off with a homemade handcrafted chocolate from the case!

If you are a local, the Tonasket Natural Foods Coop is a reason to drive to town to replenish your supplies and enjoy a hearty home-cooked entree, salad or sandwich. If you are just passing through, turn west off of Hwy 97 onto 4th street and stop for a delicious meal and some local color. Vegans and Omnivores alike can find a sandwich to suit their needs. During the lunch hour you can custom order a freshly made sandwich with a wide variety of meats, cheeses, tempeh, greens and delectable condiments. I particularly enjoy the roasted veggie entree and follow it with a fairtrade chocolate bar for the road. The garden room is sun-lit and cozy with free wifi. Employees are happy to give directions to local events and activities. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, with a vintage coop feel and modern accoutrements. Tea, coffee and a variety of sodas and juices quench the thirsty traveler. My favorite is Reed's Ginger Beer. You can also stock up with picnic foods for your camping trip in the Okanogan Highlands. There's no table service, rather it's a deli-style cafe. Stop in and check it out, its a bit of Alice's Restaurant, with healthy food and family friendly vibe.

The staff of Whistler's is always very friendly and efficient. The menu has a wide variety of selections and the food is good. I appreciate the spacious seating that allows for more private dining. They accommodate large groups but with 24-hour advanced notice.

Reservations are strongly recommended for the evening meal on weekends. We learned that on the fly, but the pleasant hostess squeezed us in at the last minutes at the bar. I felt sorry for the extremely hard working cook who handled the multitude of orders with finesse.
I would have preferred a table on their outdoor lakefront deck, but I now know that I must plan ahead for that treat.
Their salads looked amazing, and if my starter dinner salad was any indication, they would be well worth ordering as a meal, and then I might possibly have room for dessert.
This is not fine dining. They appear to operate with barebones staff who are very hard working and friendly. But the food is good and plentiful, prices are reasonable, and the views are wonderful.
It takes a little effort to make it to Bonaparte Lake, its a little off the beaten path, but you will be rewarded for your efforts. Please just don't take the last table on the deck, that one's going to be reserved for my next visit!!!

Hey - how much better an endorsement than seeing the UPS guy eating lunch here. After all he has a choice of just about anyplace in a 30 mile radius! Good, consistent, well made and fresh food. What more could you ask for?
