We are a Cafe' that has soups, salads, sandwiches (paninis) and desserts in the "front" of the house. On Thursdays, Friday's , and Saturdays we also have a steakhouse menu that offers full sit down dinners and table service in the "back" of the house.....where we have three smaller, more private dinning rooms... We offer certified angus beef sirloin and ribeye steaks, salmon, shrimp, center cut pork chops, and grilled chicken. We also offer frapes, lattes, and most all hot and cold espresso based drinks.
While returning from a drive to Cumberland Gap, we liked the reviews on Shades and decided to check it out. My husband is a real steak critic and declares the ribeye to be one of the best he has had, especially at a local steakhouse in such an humble setting. It was not prepared with a lot of extra seasoning which let the real flavor of the meat be the highlight. Our compliments to the cook.

For a family outing we went to Pine Mountain State Park, beautiful drive, an easy drive from Knoxville TN. After looking at the website, we went expecting to enjoy a Kentucky favorite- the Hot Brown. However when we were seated the only option we were given was the buffet or a VERY limited menu made up of hamburgers, club sandwiches and a small selections of steaks. We chose the buffet which was still being put out onto the hot/cold bars. The salad bar was fine, with several choices of dressings- both creamy and oil based. A nice choice of spinach, spring mix and iceburg lettuce, cheese, assorted vegetables and a few meats. The hot bar however was "ok", plenty of meat choices- Pork Tenderloin in Gravy, a Roast Beef that NEEDED gravy, fried catfish ( very good and I don't like catfish) Fried Shrimp, Fried Clam strips-so tough that they were inedible- Vegetable choices were Mashed Potatoes, Corn, and Fried Okra- all of which were "fine". They did have a couple of dessert options.
Three of the four of us chose the buffet, and the one person who ordered from the menu - wished he hadn't due to the extremely long wait for his COLD SANDWICH- we had ALL finished our dinners before his COLD SANDWICH came out of the kitchen.
The servers were all nice- and we will probably go back- however we will definitely call first to make sure that it isn't "buffet night"

I have ate breakfast here a couple times, and they serve you enough , the food is very good, and a great value for the price. The breakfast platter is my favorite . I like the chicken, yes they are serving chicken with their breakfast menu. Isn't this great! My husband still likes his sausage. The staff are very well mannered, and accurate. Service with a smile.

This place has a post card atmosphere. Located in a beautiful small town at the base of Cumberland Mountain, an area filthy rich in American history. Great lunch spot with very creative daily specials and great coffee. Staff is super friendly, all the ingredients are fresh and most offerings are made to order. There is limited amount of indoor seating but when the weather permits the best choice is to grab a table outside next to the small creek that runs through the property. They're open evenings and the outdoor seating area is decorated in strings of bistro lights. With the creek this like the scene out of a romantic movie.
If you're in the area, this is definetly worth a stop. You won't be disappointed.

Want great food for lunch while listening to the local history of Pineville? Look no further than Flocoe. Have your chicken n' dumplings while Rosemary tells you all about the Mountain Laurel Festival and how Pineville thrives in the mountains. Wonderful small town with a better history.

You always see in the Food And Travel Networks about the hidden gems in the country of Drive Ins and Restaurants, well this is definitely one not to miss!! I can honestly say I am a local and have been a loyal patron of Engles for over 35 years! Love the food and the Hotdogs and chili are the best I have ever had!!! If you are traveling thru via 25E this is a must to try! You won't be disappointed!!

This is a Mexican restaurant with real food in a tiny town that offers primarily fast food. Great place to eat while hiking in the beautiful surrounding area.

The Burger Hut doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's more than made up for by the fresh and delicious burgers. A double bacon cheeseburger and onion rings will fill anyone up!

We found this interesting-looking restaurant online, so planned a visit while on a weekend getaway to Cumberland Gap. The concept of building your own pasta, pizza or salad was appealing, as was the availability of craft beer and wine.
There is no doubt that the food was fresh and tasty. Both my wife and I opted for pasta bowls, and the amount of ingredients available was impressive. The food was prepared quickly with little wait, and was plentiful.
My issues would be with the service and atmosphere. All but one person behind the counter (there were about a half dozen people) were very young ... so young that none of them were allowed to serve alcoholic beverages. The person responsible for serving the beverages told me he could not serve us wine or beer until his manager came back. He didn't tell us how long that would be. Soon, the people waiting to be served began to become clogged as several were waiting to be served either beer or alcohol.
I eventually asked if the the one adult behind the counter could come serve the adult beverages. She reluctantly came over to the tap area, and I asked her about one of the three beers they had on tap. She informed me that she knew nothing about beer, and couldn't answer my questions as to the types of beer on tap or available in bottles. She did try to pour one beer from the tap, but wasn't trained on how to do it, so the beer was 70% foam.
Eventually the manager came back and promptly (and properly) served the folks waiting their beverages. While I applaud hiring young folks, management should make sure their employees are properly trained and that there are adults behind the counter to legally serve adult beverages and answer questions about what is available.
The atmosphere was also a disappointment, as it has the same feel and decor that one would find in a Subway shop. Certainly nothing cozy or inviting, but rather more industrial and sterile.
So, I give good marks for the food, which was very tasty, but admit to being disappointed by the service and atmosphere.

Stopped in the drive through to pick up breakfast on our way out of town. Was fairly busy when we went through, however, the order taker remained friendly and the lines moved quickly. The order was just right. Pretty good for most McDonalds we've been too.
