Features loose meat sandwiches.
This is such a fun place! Tucked away under a parking garage, this unassuming, small diner has a great staff and wonderful loose meat sandwiches. When our waitress stated that they are better than Maid-Rites, we were skeptical. But she was correct, and the chocolate shake we split was tasty as well. We will be back next time we travel up to Des Moines.

Such a cute little coffee shop with Antique shopping on the second floor! Enjoy Lunch, I recommend the Turkey Croissant Sandwich, take a peak at the antique shop upstairs, then on your way out grab a yummy coffee to go. I love the Americola or Caramel Mocha, their regular coffee is pretty good too. Just a great place, quaint with a small town feel and small town good deals. I go every visit. Only sad that it isn't open on Sundays.

From all the great reviews I was real excited to try this place. My chocolate milkshake was so so. I had to let it thaw for 20 minutes before I could drink it. I thought it was a little pricy too. A little over 7.00 for 2 regular milkshakes was a bit high in my opinion. My husband liked his peanut butter shake, but I threw mine away after drinking a 1/4 of it. If you gotta get out of your car, stand in line, and pay cash I guess I was expecting some kinda homemade greatness. This tasted like any regular stuff you could get out of any machine and about any cheap buffet restaurant.

Nice selection of donuts and pastery. Good coffee. Limited breakfast and lunch menu. The $3.99 breakfast menu is a good deal. Eggs were prepared as requested. Service was friendly and efficient. Cheerful ambiance, clean and well maintained.

We stopped here on a Thursday night, and the place was full. We got there just in time as the line went out the door behind us. We started with warm chips and fresh salsa. My wife had the Fajita Quesadilla and I had the Tequilia Burrito which is a huge, delicious seafood burrito (tilapia or shrimp). They're in an old downtown building (which I really like) but as they find success I hope they can put a little more into fixing up the facility.

I was fortunate to visit Appanoose Rapids with friends I hadn't seen in many years. The dinner didn't disappoint. It seemed we all ordered something different, although 2 of us started with the French Onion soup which was quite good. I was told that they're famous for their burgers, among other things, but I declined the Garbage Burger and did the TBJ which was a burger with bacon, peanut butter, and fried bananas---certainly something different. Although it was different, I think the peanut butter overwhelmed. One of our group got the spicy pasta which was very delicious (and very spicy). I enjoyed the beers they had, although they don't brew their own there I was told.

We were looking for a good pork tenderloin sandwich and after reading the reviews decided to give Recovery Room a try. The place is old school 50/60's place with great personality and friendly atmosphere.
We had the tenderloin sandwich and fries and they both came out piping hot. The tenderloin was nice and thick and fixed just right. The coating could use a little more seasoning but adding salt helped add some flavor. The fries were just frozen crinkle fries but fixed properly.
We enjoyed both the food and the old time bar atmosphere.

Stopped in recently for the first time on a week night for dinner with some friends. This is nothing but your typical sports bar with lots of tv's which I can image would be really loud. The menu is very very limited to fried foods and nothing really great to speak of. Probably good for a stop to visit with friends and have a beer but I would plan to eat elsewhere.

The Second Street Cafe, located off the lobby on the main floor, offers a menu sure to satisfy every taste. TThe extensive menu, including breakfast, sandwiches, appetizers, pizza, dinners, and deserts allow everyone to order their personal favorite. Priced moderately, the Second Street cafe is a must when visiting the Ottumwa area.
Ordered a burger and fries to-go for my room upon arrival. Really quick service, loaded with bacon, plenty of fries. Included breakfast with our hotel room was great. Pancakes, warm syrup, bacon and sausage, scrambled eggs were all excellent. Great service, food was served quickly...MoreWe are glad to hear you enjoyed both of your meals. Breakfast is sort of our thing around here. We can't get enough of it, and serve it all day! Please do come back and stay with us again anytime.
