Theodore's Dining Room at the Rough Riders Hotel, also attached to the dining room and hotel is TRs Tavern
We loved this upscale eatery!!! Fine dining in a town of 123 permanent residents....unlikely!!! Bison osso bucco, prime rib, salmon...asparagus...horseradish creme..garlic mas...white chocolate raspberry cheesecake!!! Every dish we had was prepared to perfection...no cowboy beans or overdone meat here!!!

We thought we'd stop in and have some hand-dipped ice cream, but when we entered the line was coming out the door. We waited a couple minutes and the line was moving very slowly. Instead we decided to sample and buy some fudge because they thankfully had a separate register for the fudge. The fudge was good, but the lady helping us lacked customer service. It seemed as if she wasn't used to servicing the fudge counter because she had no idea which flavor was which. No service with a smile :(

My granddaughters wanted to come here, and since I don't drink coffee any more, I waited outside. My eldest granddaughter came out with a coffee drink called white satin, and my other granddaughter came out with a pina colada smoothie. She offered me a taste, and it was so good that we came back again the next day and we all got smoothies before we left town. They were a little bit on the pricey side, but that is to be expected in a tourist town. I would definitely come back the next time I am in Medora.

After spending the night in town we found the Cowboy Cafe open. This is a homey restaurant with friendly wait staff. We both had a good breakfast and good service.

Make sure to try the Cotton Candy ice cream. It is so yummy. The scoops are very generous and the service is very friendly. My only complaint is that they close too early. They should remain open for about an hour after the musical closes. My ice cream cravings usually occur after 9.

In my opinions steaks would be much better if they just grill it instead of deep frying it. And 29 $ for pitchfork steak fondue is too much. It is not worth it.

We chose the pizza parlor for supper instead of the cowboy fondue. We had a large pizza and could not eat it all. They have many types of specialty pizzas as well as pasta. Good food on a budget.

We were looking for a place for lunch and this place was highly recommended in TripAdvisor. The restaurant is nicely done. A nice touch for a good ambiance. The waiter was pleasant. The pulled pork sandwich had been recommended as well as the Asian wrap....MoreThank you so much for taking the time to join us at The Farmhouse Cafe! Glad you enjoyed your meal and the suggestions! Hoping you had a wonderful time in Medora!

The Boots Bar & Grill was formerly the Iron Horse Saloon. New owners have taken over and were not allowed the former name, which I feel is actually to their advantage. We have eaten there three different times while passing through North Dakota and would like to leave a review under the new name of "Boots Bar & Grill". It looks like they have expanded. It is a western themed saloon with a large screened in porch as you first walk in, saloon has several large tables made from huge tree slabs, there is a spiral stairway that leads to a large loft for serving 30-45 with an open terrace on top that also has several tables outside.
Warning...if you are heading to Boots in the "off season", disregard their on-line menu. Off season starts around mid-Sept. Once that magic date arrives, this establishment is on a "limited menu", so no game (ex. bison and elk). We ended up with two burgers, both were overcooked and tasteless. Felt sorry for the bartender, who was also the waitress...she was hustling and could not keep up with the ebb and flow of patrons in a large table seating area.

Family restaurant featuring areas largest selection of beef, buffalo and elk steak. Burgers, sandwiches, seafood and homemade pizza. Dine in our formal restaurant or in the saloon. Historic saloon features 1800's decor, authentic seating with many photo opportunities. Full bar service with tap and bottle beer. Entire dining menu available at saloon.
Had a buffalo burger (cooked to order) w/ fries as well as sautéed walleye. Both were fine, nothing exceptional. Liked the vibe of the place as it seemed to be a place for locals and tourists.
