Southern comfort food with a twist - served in this roadside WWII-era historic hotel. Quaint downtown square location offers a nice stroll to stretch your legs. Locally roasted coffee, Black Jack - homemade Pecan pie w splash of Jack Daniels, or Minnie Pearl's Chess Pie (plus a larger-than-life bronze statue of the Queen of Country Comedy!). House-made "Linden sauce" - smoky-sweet Buffalo-chipotle (since we're 1/3 mi from the Buffalo River) for our hand-patted burgers or hand-cut chicken strips. Speakeasy Bar & Lounge is only full bar within 50 miles. Friendly staff. Locally owned & operated by a Rhode Island couple who relocated to TN for its gorgeous land & natural wonders. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to get a tour of the haunted hotel, and hear a story or two about the underground tunnel to the old jail.
In the early 1940s my grandfather, Webb Duncan, ran the restaurant in the Commodore Hotel in Linden, Tennessee. Mother worked as a waitress. Last week, I called Kathy Dumont, the owner of the Hotel with her husband, Michael, to ask if the restaurant would be open Labor Day. I told her about mother, who is 92 years old, working there 75 years ago. I wanted to bring her there to eat Labor Day. She told me to come.
When we arrived, the restaurant was closed — not open for customers today. However, Kathy was there when we arrived at 1:00. She and another young lady cooked for us, told us about the restoration of the hotel, and asked Mother about her work there. We were there talking and eating until 3:30.
This is one of the best examples of personal, individual, excellent service I have experienced. I appreciate Kathy for giving Mother a day to remember and an opportunity to remember people and events from three-quarters of a century ago.
When you are driving in the vicinity of Linden, Tennessee, I highly recommend you stop by the Commodore Hotel for a meal, or a night, or both — or drive there to enjoy the hospitality!
...And they cooked my catfish for my sandwich EXACTLY the way I requested!

My husband and I visited Hens and Hogs for lunch and enjoyed it. He had a large pork platter with Cole slaw, baked beans and homemade potato salad with sweet tea. The tea was very sweet. I had 1/2 chicken with a baked potato. The only complaint was that the staff constantly checked on us asking if we needed anything. They were polite but the whole staff does not need to ask.

In the small community of Linden one restaurant stands out, the B & H Dairy Bar. No longer a drive-in its quality food and loyal following maintain a solid reputation. The B&H is a among Tennessee's time-honored treasures. The broiled or fried catfish plate, hand-patted Hamburgers and soft-serve are among the best you will find anywhere in the state. Mr. Blake Garrison, the owner / operator runs a super clean, fun, friendly establishment. Linden is 20 miles south of I-40 on Highway 13 which parallels the Tennessee River.

Not many dining options in Linden on a Sunday, however for a decent burger, tots and fried green tomatoes, you can't go wrong with the Video Café. Nothing fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but good quality basic food at a very reasonable price. FYI - serving sizes are large, I could not finning the double cheeseburger.

We go to Sonic on Tuesdays for the half price burgers, but last week I visited on Wednesday and had Toaster sandwich with bacon, BBQ sauce and an onion ring. It was delicious! I also love the Cherry limeades.

I visited Subway last week and had fast, friendly service. My subs were fresh and tasty, and I didn't have to wait as I have in the past.
