Country Tavern is out of the way. It's not near the interstate, it's outside a small town between Tyler and Longview Texas. Doesn't matter. The place is a hopping business that serves up some fine ribs in a joint type atmosphere that is a favorite among those who know.
Take the time to find this place and enjoy a great plate of ribs and nice people. You can thank me later.

Food and service! Fast. Friendly. Only thing that needs attention is patio and outside seating. Locals must like it because there was constant traffic.

Can’t brag on this restaurant enough!
Have dined there many times since it opened and have never been disappointed. Nice atmosphere, beautiful art on display and top-notch service unequaled in the Longview/Kilgore area.
All that said, the best thing is the food. Whether it is steak or fish it is prepared with big city, fine dining expertise.
So if you are looking for an evening of fine dining in the East Texas area and willing to spend a little extra, Jack Ryan’s, Kilgore is a sure bet!!!!

Serving our community for over 25 years. Jackie and Vicki have built a legend at The Back Porch. The Clayton's have owned the Back Porch since 1990 but the history goes back to the 1960"s when the business was a pool hall owned by the infamous Harry Crow. Starting off with burgers being their specialty they use only fresh unfrozen meat, and the menu was originally very simple; big and little burgers and large homemade fries. Now the menu has a large variety of delicious entrees to choose from. GREAT FOOD NOT FAST FOOD Complimentary beans and hush puppies while you wait for your meal. The Clayton's were born and raised in Kilgore...just good down-home people serving the community they love. Winner of 2015 EAST TEXAS MUSIC Awards for BEST VENUE with live music every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Never been in before our recent visit. Impressive place, overall.
Like I said, the catfish was very good, as were the fries it was served with. My friends had burgers, and they enjoyed them too.
Although we had tea, the bar set up, is really nice looking and I think watching a game there would be a lot of fun.

This is a great place to have a quick lunch. Sandwiches, soups, salads, baked potatoes. If I remember right, this place started as a yogurt bar and added to the menu after a nearby restaurant closed after being saved by Restaurant Impossible. The yogurt is lactose free, there are also gluten of free options on the menu. If you are in the area, you should give this place a try.

We had a so-so experience during this visit to the Kilgore Jalapeño Tree; our previous experience was much better. I ordered the featured prickly pear margarita and was told they were out of the mix. My shrimp soft taco was tasty but the grilled veggies that accompanied it were deplorable; cold and rubbery as if they had been cooked hours earlier. Our waiter was friendly but would disappear for long stretches. Not sure if I'll visit again.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. Driving through Kilgore we decided to stop. This is a country style Buffet that also serves steaks and has a menu as well. The salad bar had lots of choices and was fresh the dessert bar we had a completely enormous array of choices. The entrees were delicious. The fried chicken tenders were country style. The chicken-fried steak was the best I think I've ever had. You can really tell that the meat was high-quality. The pot roast was fall apart tender in the gravy was excellent. The fried okra, green beans, everything was great. I'm not sure if the mashed potatoes were instant or real... But then again if I can't tell then I guess that's fine with me. They said their bread pudding was the special of the house. It didn't look all that great but man was it fantastic!

I've been trying to find something I like to eat at Chili's for a while because I like Chili's and have been going to them since the first one on Greenville Ave in Dallas.
I finally found something I like, Honey-Chipotle Crispers & Waffles!
The appetizer portion was great this visit.
Now I hear that Chili's is going to delete 50 menu items. No doubt my fave will be cut. Bummer.........

If you like breakfast burritos, this is the place. Really good and fresh. The guacamole is really good but has a lot of diced onion in it. I have made a meal on chips and guacamole many times. The rest of the food is average. Not bad but not outstanding. But they seem to have a fair amount of customers each day.

Passing through you can never go wrong with Whataburger. Its just off the freeway it seemed to be in a safe area however there was a homeless man soliciting for help. It's attached to a gas station & convenience store but it's a pretty good size inside and is decked out with Beatles memorabilia and the Blues Brothers. It was clean but the bathrooms could have used some attention. While we were eating we got a show of a girl getting busted for solicitation.
