This burger bus is a block away from the Visitor's Center. I stopped here before walking the beach. Lots of other guests were nearby, either eating their meal in their cars or at the picnic tables. The place was busy the entire time and the owner whipped up my burger platter fast and with a smile.
The burger was fresh, not frozen. And for just under $7 the best and cheapest burger on the peninsula, hands down.
This place is so popular that you may have to park a block away, because the gravel parking lot isn't very big.

We've tried most of the coffee stands in the area and most of them are mediocre. Shorty's has been the first one to really stand out to us in kenai and soldotna.

Enjoyed lunch here when RVing through Alaska. The menu was interesting & the food delicious. We ordered quiche with polenta crust and sandwich special of the day. Great & high recommend!

A large group went to Louie's for lunch. They also were still serving breakfast, which was a nice surprise. I had a breakfast skillet while the rest had a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The salads were huge and very good. Everyone liked their sandwiches. My skillet was good, but a little dry. Salsa solved that. Overall, a very good meal. We would happily go back.

The Flats Bistro is owned and operated by local born-and-raised Alaskan couple Luke and Naomi Thibodeau. The menu was designed by two Le Cordon Bleu graduates and features fresh, local ingredients, made in house whenever possible. The Flats takes reservations and also saved half of the tables for walk-ins every night.
This was our favorite restaurant in Alaska! This restaurant would have felt at home in LA or Seattle. Innovative food, interesting appetizers and salads, good wine list by the bottle and glass. Our fishing guide recommended this place as the best foodie option in town. I know it's in Kenai but it's super close to Soldotna. Service was excellent and the owner came by to make sure we were happy. We were!

We were touted on to Playa Azul by our fishing guide, Jeremy. It was a few miles from our lodging in Soldatna, but well worth the trip. Their outstanding Mexican food puts the chains to shame. Our group tried an enchilada, tamale, seafood burrito and two carnitas burritos. All were first rate.
As others report, the salsa bar is an interesting plus with a variety of tasty salsas.
Playa Azul is a casual spot. You order at a counter and then serving staff bring your orders to the table.

During our Alaska holiday we happened upon Charlott's and decided to eat breakfast there. The sausage and gravy contained more sausage meat than normal, i.e. most sausage and gravy portions are high on gravy and low on sausage. I ordered the gravy served over sourdough pancakes. The cook commented that he had never heard of sausage gravy over pancakes . We replied that it is common in the south and we are from Virginia. By the way the portion sizes are huge!!!
The wife had the traditional sausage and gravy over homemade biscuits.
Excellent chow!!!! We will visit when we next return to Alaska

Connected to the Main Street Hotel, this looks like more of a bar than a restaurant but the food was good and service attentive and prompt. Prices were very reasonable for the area. We thought about sitting outside on the patio to get away from the activity at the pool table near where we were seated, but our server advised us that this was the smoking area, so we opted to remain inside.

OMG, couldn't swallow the crap they served us at absorbent prices. Service was useless also, complained but waitress would not take it back to cook. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

I've eaten in Kenai many times but had no idea about this hidden gem. I had the seafood salad and it was positively scrumptious. Our service was pretty good, considering the place was packed for lunch on a Friday. Prices are decent considering the homemade bread and food with nice portion sizes. This place is a winner.
