The Kalona Brewing Company Restaurant grew out of the owner's love for wood-fired, thin crust pizza - alla Napolitana. We use local cherry wood to infuse the pizza with a delicious sweet smokeyness. Beyond the pizza menu, we have included food that pairs with our primary ingredient - beer! Appetizers, burgers, brats, spiced chicken, grilled cheese, and roasted Portabello mushrooom sandwiches, veggieburgers, and other special features from our chefs. We have soups and salads, plus we feature a weekly cheese plate highlighting local and regional specialties as well as classic imported cheeses, served with organic crackers. On tap you'll find an array of Kalona Brewing Company's fine craft beers, including seasonal and limited editions, choice guest craft brews and an assortment of microbrewed sodas. Lunch is served from 11 a.M.-5 P.M. And dinner from 5 p.M.-Close.
Rode my motorcycle about 30 miles to check-out the place. Looked like a nice place and it wasn’t too busy. Sat down at the bar and waited. And waited. And waited. No hello. No acknowledgement. No one even looked at me even though three different bartenders walked past multiple times. After 10 minutes I left. I had terrible service at another restaurant in Kalona this summer and so I don’t know if it is a bad coincidence or a culture of poor service. I’m not planning to return to find out.

We went out because my niece told us about the pecan caramel rolls. The place was fairly busy on a Saturday morning, and they had a great selection of baked products as well as other homemade food products. There is a large variety of handmade items as well. Well worth the trip out there! I recommend the pecan caramel rolls and the snickerdoodles!

Although I've heard rave reviews about the Tuscan Moon, I never had the pleasure of dining there until today. I ordered the Spicy Tuscan Pasta (penne with chicken) with a side Caesar salad. To say that it was delicious would be an understatement. The spices in the tomato sauce were amazing... a perfect balance of mild heat that did not over power the dish. Server Kari (sp?) was friendly, attentive and efficient. She knew the menu and was very helpful with any questions. Outside seating was perfect. The owner stopped for pleasant conversation but was careful not to intrude. Thanks Tuscan Moon for such a pleasurable dining experience.

The positive - food wasn't too bad. Nice outdoor seating area.
The negative - very unfriendly staff. Host, waiter, and everyone else seemed unhappy to be there. Several staff including the waiter walked by after we had our food but no one checked if we had everything or if we wanted another beverage. I had the shrimp chipotle and the flavor was good but it was a little skimpy on shrimp.
Overall I would not return.

Really good generous portions of delicious soft-serve in a wide variety of flavors. Of course, I opted for the chocolate/vanilla twist, but there are plenty of other tasty combos. The raspberry on the kiddo's cone ahead of me looked really good; not so much the cotton candy his brother ordered! Reasonably priced, it's just the right treat after watching the horse auction at the nearby sale barn!

The chicken breast we ordered was not a whole breast, but thin slices of chicken breast with a minimum of seasoning. It was slightly under-cooked. The baked potato was the best thing on the plate. There were lots of flies that wanted to share the meal. The waitress was a tad on the grumpy side. We would not return to the Kalona Family Restaurant again.

Great family owned store, has been there longer than I have been in the area (30 years). A little smaller than the Typical Iowa Hy-Vee stores but has pretty much everything you need. good produce and meat departments, bakery and a sit down dining area.

Nice little bar, used to have a logo resembling the Hard rock café till they got threatened. Friendly staff, excellent sandwiches and cold beer at a good price.

Prices are higher, much higher in fact. And I felt the meat & veggie portions were smaller than before. But, they were training a new girl so that could be why. She was very nice & friendly. We will stop on our way back to Des Moines & give it another try..
