After a long day of hiking and exploring, we definitely couldn't resist the smell of pie from the Julian Pie Company on our way home on Hwy 79. It was later in the day (about 3:45pm), but they still had a bunch of fresh baked pies and frozen pies for sale. The line was out the door, but it moved pretty quickly. To prevent ourselves from over indulging (because I would probably eat the whole pie alone), we decided to only order a slice each. Both the boyfriend and I ordered a slice of Dutch Apple Pie, and it was seriously heavenly. Crunchy crumble on top with the gooey apple filling and flakey crust - delicious does not even begin to describe how amazing it was.
The shop is pretty tiny in terms of seating space. From what I saw, most people just ordered to go.
Lastly, their fresh apple cider is amazing! I usually don't like apple cider because it's a tad bit too tart for my liking. However, the apple cider here was just right.
If you're driving by, definitely stop by for some amazing pie and apple cider!

Julian's only cafe and full service flower shop in one. The menu features a full line of homemade soups, fresh sandwiches and salads at lunch. Breakfast is served Thursday - Sunday only from 8am-11am with Classic Eggs Benedict and Organic Apple Pancakes as specialites. The only cafe in town that serves fresh french press coffee and homemade desserts.
We just took a day trip up to Julian over the holidays and decided we wanted a burger. This place had good reviews so we took a chance. Great, friendly service, comfortable, unpretentious decor, not noisy, and a really surprisingly good burger! Not cheap but not outrageous either, and you're getting a home cooked meal up there in the mountains so I'm ready to spend a few more bucks than I would down in SD.

On our recent weekend in Julian, we copped an Apple pie from the freezer at the Julian Apple Pie Co. I’m always anxious that we won’t get the same quality from my home oven as they do with their big commercial ovens, but this worked really well. Baked it last night following the directions inside the box and have over eaten ever since.

I will start be saying that I was sure I submitted a review for this fine place last year. But alas, it looks like it was stuck in draft for the past year.
The wife and I went there last year on June 15th, 2015 the day before our 31st anniversary. We had made reservations and the young lady failed to realize that they would be closed that day. So, when we arrived, we found the place closed. A very disappointing moment. I proceeded to call and as luck would have it, the owner answered. She apologized and when she found out we were right out the shop, stated that she was there having a fridge door repaired.
She then invited us in, let us know she would be happy to provide us service and proceeded to get things set up for us. The music came on, she seated us in front of the window, then she proceeded to provide us with a full on tea service. We had the "The Cottage Classic," and she did not skimp on a thing, everything was fresh and the teas were great; I had the Yorkshire Gold Black tea (even bought a box from her) and the wife and the Hibiscus tea.
I have to say, it was a most awesome time. She even allowed us to shop her store and look around. I truly recommend this place. It is small, so make a reservation, just remember to ask if they will be open that day. LOL

I tend to judge a restaurant on how good they make a cup of coffee. Coffee at Jeremy's was excellent. Brussels sprouts a must try.

This is the third time we have visited this restaurant. It is casual, local, fun and friendly. I was very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food.
They make their own carbonated drinks there and I enjoyed the Wynola Cola. What a kick.
The evening was comfortably warm and the music was great. We stayed for all three sets.

We were in Julian in November 2017. We had lunch here because their board said they had gluten free sandwiches. We discovered they had gluten free pies also. Lunch was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
After having a piece of pie for lunch we purchased two gluten free pies, an apple and an apple boysenberry. Fabulous find
The town of Julian is definitely worth a visit.

Our party of four were seated, eventually, in the very crowded, small, nostalgic cafe. Service was not bad and there was a good variety of menu choices.
The meals arrived timely, warm and with generous portions. The only bad thing was the tortilla soup. If one is accustomed to chicken tortilla soup, don't get this! There is no chicken (or any meat), just a creamy pumpkin flavored concoction with a few tortilla chips and carrot bits mixed in.
All other items were great! Nothing to write home about, by any means, but satisfying and reasonably priced. There are healthy options, burgers, home-style plates such as chicken fried steak with gravy (which was delicious with gravy on the side rather than smothering and overwhelming the steak).
One person had the liver and onions plate. She said it was very good. Another had the burger special. It was awesome and comes with their famous Apple pie ala mode.
The tiny cafe also sells a number of tourist-geared retail items. It is worth a try!

I have been coming here for more than forty years. It is still one of the best places to buy fresh bread. I recommend the Jalapeno-Cheddar. The energy bars, ginger overtones, are great as well. !
I hear the firemen saved this place first when the fires swept through this area, and for a good reason !
But the place is a bit quirky. The hours are bizarre. It is closed often. And it is a bit coyote ugly inside. It is due for a facelift that will preserve its rustic charm. The old cattle brands on the wall are a nice touch !

This is the best place for pastries and pies. We stopped in on our way back from Julian where we found pies there to be just ok. Glad we stopped here as everything we bought; pies, scones, sticky buns, bread and other pastries were simply delicious.
You want real homemade baked goods look no further, this is the place them.
