My family ate at the Crouse Cafe prior to attending the excellent Des Moines Metro Opera. We had no idea where to eat in Indianola and wanted to avoid fast food. We happened upon the Crouse Cafe and found it to be wonderful! The menu is large and varied and the service is excellent. The young woman who served our table was really terrific. The atmosphere is certainly no-frills, but the service was warm and welcoming. The prices are very reasonable and we enjoyed our meals very much. I highly recommend the Crouse Cafe -- if you're attending an opera production, take note... It's a great place for a pre-performance meal!

This is the small town coffee shop hang out for all the locals. It has home cooked food and a variety of coffee drinks. The prices are very low. The food is hot and excellent. The are five varieties of homemade quiche. There are eight or more large tables with four to ten chairs at each table. This place can handle groups of four women at the same time there are groups of ten to twelve farmers sitting next to them. There are two small tables with only two chairs where one person can sit to work on a computer. The shop is on the town square so you need to park on the city street where there are no parking meters. Parking is free. You order your drinks and go to an open table. There is no table service by a waitress. The staff and all customers are small town friendly and welcoming to everyone who walks in the door.

Super delicious homemade ice cream. Flavors vary from day to day. We tried the blueberry lemonade and the dark chocolate. They also have an ice cream truck that goes to different events.

This is my go to place for gyros in the area. They do them right, with meat carved to order. They also make great fries, also cooked to order so they are hot and crisp when you get them. My only hitch is that it appears that instead of using actual tzatziki sauce, they are substituting ranch dressing. Get that fixed, and this would be the best meal in Indianola.

Service was quick and prices are reasonable. Easy stop off of main street in Indianola. Latte was a little heavy on the milk.

We were a party of 3 and had the 4 cheese rotini, linguine with meat sauce, calzone with meatballs, jalapeño and red peppers, a peach cobbler mule (which was very tasty )and an Oktoberfest beer. Left the place for $35 plus tip. It was all good and the calzone is big enough that it could be 2 meals.

I have been eating at this place since it opened in the early 70's. The pizza is terrific and unusual in style. A soft yet thin crust cut into square pieces. I love this place as it is unusual and part of my high school memories.

Had a chance to stop in for a Mexican meal on a business trip in town. We were shocked to see how reasonable priced the menu was compared to most Mexican restaurants we stop at across the Midwest.
When we got the food, we realized why. Very average tasting food here. Sauces tasted like canned sauce - and I'm assuming it was reheated in the micro.
Had I payed typical pricing I would have been more frustrated, but the reasonable pricing offset the ok tasting food. We didn't leave hungry!

This place hasn't changed much from when I was a kid and I'm glad it hasn't. The root beer floats are the best and servers bring food out to your car. They still have the mechanical change machines. The food is decent by we always come for ice cream when down for the balloon festival.

This place is a gem of Indianola. One of the best places to grab breakfast or lunch in town. I highly recommend the biscuit sandwich for breakfast or a meat pie for lunch. They also have great biscuits and gravy. Salads are on the small side but they are tasty.
