Came away with three impressions ....
- it's comfort food.
- large servings
- limited or just average wines
Off 9W, in West Park. Ample parking. Three sections: banquet, dinning room, bar lounge. Banquet is banquet. Dining in the dinning room or bar/lounge area are the same so don't fret if you are.
If you haven't been here, it's smallish; you enter a rectangle with its rooms long and slender. Comfortable seating; maybe 15 tables: 2s, 4s, 1 larger.
Service is very good, and their wanting you to have a good dinning experience; their patient, attentive, and suggestive.
Very long and diverse menu. All different meals from Italian pastas, French veal and frogs legs, Fishes, to Unusual: chicken liver. Didn't see much meats.
Superb shrimp cocktail. Plump and of good size. Sauce was zangy!! Fried zucchini was so-so! Strips were long but too tiny as the taste was cooked away.
Out dinner selection was diverse: Salmon was moist and over spinach, chicken piccata & chicken livers were super sized, tender with light handed sauce. Their the eggplant and lasagna, also large portioned, were comfy, not spicy or distinctive. Their London Broil was bit on the well-done side. Veggie was broccoli; it was steamed so we buttered it & pepper.
No room for desert.
Wine was a our decision to have or not. As wine is personal taste, we had a tough time with their whites.

The Apple Pie Bakery Cafe showcases the talents of the CIA's baking and pastry arts students and faculty, and features sumptuous baked goods and cafe cuisine. The full menu is available for takeout or to enjoy in our relaxed, reservation-free dining area.

The Apple Pie Bakery Cafe received awards for "Best Desserts" and "Best Lunch Spot" in Hudson Valley Magazine's annual "Best Of The Hudson Valley" awards.
We were in the area and decided to try the pastries from Apply Pie Bakery at the Culinary Institute for a lunch. They have a fairly large and diverse selection, all made by the students. After purchasing our pastries, we went out to the fountain garden at the front of the main building and sat on one of the shaded benches and enjoyed our lunch.

The Culinary Institute is a beautiful campus with many attractive building spread over several hill. It is well worth a visit. There are four restaurants serving different cuisines. We had previously tried the American restaurant so this time we went with the French. The ambience is attractive and the service staff (all trainees) was very attentive. The food was not quite as good as we expected. The appetizers were very good and we were even served some complimentary excellent oysters. Three of our four entrees were very good but I was disappointed with the duck breast that I had ordered. I'm not sure how it was prepared but it was very bland and did not look like any duck breast I had ever seen before. That was the main reason I did not give Bocuse a rating of excellent.

They seem clean and efficient and look like recently renovated. Good donuts. Sour cream donuts are especially good there. You can relax, have breakfast or "coffee and donut" and watch news on their flat screen.

Have I ever been disappointed in a cone dipped in chocolate at Diary Queen.....NO! Since we do not have one locally near us, we always make it our business to stop when we see one. Very tasty, a real treat.

With a focus on the seasons and products of the Hudson Valley, contemporary and traditional regional dishes are brought to life at the American Bounty Restaurant in an honest and flavorful way. Rounded out with a first-class American wine list and comfortable warm service, this casually elegant restaurant sets the stage for an unparalleled dining experience in New York's Hudson Valley.
After touring the CIA we had the wonderful experience of dining at this restaurant. This was the first time my kids had experienced this type of service and food. They throughly enjoyed the experience.
Our group was served a three course meal with bread. The Parker rolls are baked fresh every morning and are amazing! We enjoyed a beautiful salad and main course. The majority of the group had chicken, some salmon and some vegetarian. I started out with the salmon but there were mussels on the plate and I am allergic to shellfish. When I informed the servers, they quickly removed the plate and several minutes later brought back a delicious risotto dish with wheat berries, heirloom tomatoes, spinach, goat cheese, pears, maitake mushrooms, and roasted parsnips. They didn’t just throw this together —it was a beautiful plate and absolutely delicious. The dessert was the highlight—chocolate lava cake with a tangy sorbet. It was heavenly.
Overall, the plates were attractive and beautifully conceived. The food was top quality and loved the fact that it was sourced from local farms. The waiters and cooks are students and they put their best foot forward. This is the best restaurant experience our family has ever had. We will definitely come back.

Perfect quick lunch spot next to the stairs leading up to the East Gate of the walkway. We had delicious sandwiches (Philly Cheesesteak & turkey/brie pannini). The menu also has salads and soups. I saw some nice-looking desserts too. A good find right where we needed it.

What a cozy, warm, vintage interior with warm aged wood paneling, bar and fireplace. And then there's the food and the service... Started with a delicious poached pear martini. My friend had a fried green tomato appetizer and then a mussel dish in lobster bisque both of which she found delicious. I had a duck wing appetizer which was a little over done but tastey. My entree was a braised short rib which I can say unequivocally was the best short rib I've ever eaten. I look forward to going back...maybe during the holidays or a cold snowy evening which would make it even more cozy. The prices were also a pleasant surprise...definitely worth every penny.

This was recommended to us by a friend and we were not disappointed. Had a delicious bkfst, very quaint and unique older diner. Crowded Sunday morning but we were seated quickly and very spacious eating areas everywhere. Will definitely be back next time were in this area!
