Experience our award-winning wines in a fun and relaxed setting in the heart of the Black Hills. Find us three miles northwest of Hill City on Highway 385, just a few miles from Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Crazy Horse Memorial. We’re Hill City’s only working winery and Sandi Vojta, our fifth generation winemaker, handcrafts each wine, often using old family recipes, just a few steps from our Tasting Room. Start your Prairie Berry Winery experience with a free wine tasting of up to five of our award-winning wines, including our Anna Pesä handcrafted traditional European wines, at our Tasting Bars. We produce a variety of wines in styles for every palate – from crisp, dry wines and robust, oak-aged reds to sweet, fruity varieties. Our Kitchen offers housemade menu items including gluten-free, vegetarian and kids’ options. Menu selections pair perfectly with our wines, vary with the season and many of our ingredients are sourced locally. Enjoy a meal on our patio with our beautiful views of Black Elk Peak (formerly Harney Peak). Our brewery, Miner Brewing Company, is located next door.
Looking for a light and tasty takeout early dinner with family we returned (after three years since our last visit) to Prairie Berry to find it much the same as we remembered. While waiting for the takeout order we had a late lunch with a very delicious (really a wow) open-face chicken and bacon salad sandwich, with wine (Pheasant Reserve) for me and a yummy sangria for my wife. Also outstanding was the gingerbread trifle that we shared for dessert. For takeout we had the soup of the day, a delicious sweet potato sausage soup followed by the charcuterie and cheese boards and the antipasto platter. Perhaps a bit on the pricy side, but overall really excellent, as we remembered.

We stopped here for an after-dinner treat of ice cream for the kids and chocolate treats for my husband and me. The kids enjoyed the homemade ice cream and said it was delicious, and my husband and I thought the chocolates were heavenly (we shared small bites with the kids). The servers were patient with us as it took a while for everyone to make choices with so many options.
We did get the plain coffee, which I thought was mediocre. I think so many people get "fancy," doctored up coffees that the taste of the "plain" coffee gets lost, and I'm afraid that this was one of those places -- the plain coffee was okay but not fantastic. But the chocolates were amazing (which made up for the coffee).

The Annie Lode Coffee Cabin is a year-round drive-thru coffee shop located three miles northeast of Hill City, SD. We proudly make every cup of coffee with freshly-pulled shots of espresso. We are open Monday-Saturday 6am-1pm.
So glad one of the locals suggested this place. We stopped here every morning before started our day while on vacation. The couple that run the place are totally adorable and friendly. My wife got the special every day and I got hot chocolate...possible the best I've had anywhere. My wife has decided she wants to buy this place when we "retire". :)

We visited Hill City on a 2 month vacation "Out West" from Michigan. It was a short stop but a LOVELY one!!! The City has so much Character and the Alpine Inn makes the visit complete!!! One day one, we wondered why SO MANY PEOPLE where gathered outside this place waiting for it to open. After reviewing the menu, we decided to stop by for dinner the next day. We had a great time visiting wineries and then Alpine Inn for Dinner. We did NOT have high expectations since the price was less than what you'd typically spend at Mc Donalds. Seriously, we were Pleasantly Surprised!! We enjoyed visiting with others waiting to be seated and the staff were Lovely!! When dinner came, it was truly AMAZING!!! It was so good, we returned again the next day before leaving Hill City!!! Bon Appetit!!!

Very nice people. Good ice cream. And they sale the PPP pies, which is great if you aren't venturing into Custer.

The inside of this store will probably fill out with more products as time goes by but why did they have to choose such a tawdry, glaring look for the outside? The building exterior looks nauseating next to the natural beauty that surrounds it. Just another tacky tourist trap in the Black Hills. Such a shame.

We arrived in Hll City without knowing anything about the restaurants and were fortunate to choose Desperados. We liked it so much we returned the second night we were in town. My husband and friend had the pork chop the first night and the pork brisket the second night which they said was outstanding. I had the trout the first night which was so special with it's lemon mustard coating, maybe the best way I've ever had it prepared. The second night I had the walleye which was excellent although I would have preferred a skinless fillet. The walnut pie was great served warm and our friend liked her apple pie very much. I had bread pudding which was so so. When back in the area we will definitely stop again. Note: the close in early October for winter.

I'm not sure if we caught these workers in a bad day, or what! We ordered our food, they called our name (meaning the order was ready) we go to take our drinks from the counter & a super rude worker apparently wasn't done with the drinks. She said "Well now that you moved them, I don't know which is which!" Then half our order was missing...apparently the lady taking our order didn't hear the whole order, & then when she read it back to us, we didn't hear it right either. So second rude worker scowls at me and says "I read the order back to you and you said it was right!" I think she may have realized how rude she was being, so we got a "sorry about that" after the second part came. The food was definitely nothing to write home about. We definitely won't be back.

I've read some really great reviews about this place, but what we experienced doesn't match those. Everything was fine. Average service, average food, average atmosphere. It was pretty empty when we were there, which was mid-afternoon, so not a busy time. Our server was nice, but not super attentive. It was close to our campground and I'm glad we tried it, but I don't feel the need to go back or even recommend it.

We stopped here for ice cream on the way to Mt Rushmore. It was a typical dairy queen, looked like teenagers working with a mixed bag of customers. They were fairly quick, but the place could have been cleaner. I think they had been very busy. The parking is not very good if you have a truck. Overall, the blizzards were OK.
