A group of four on a Sunday night for a birthday dinner. We were seated quickly in a booth near the bar and a waitress promptly took our drink and app orders.
We started with fried green tomatoes which came with ranch dressing and a spicy remoulade for dipping. They were lightly battered and seasoned and cooked to perfection. I ordered blackened catfish with a side of tater tots and okra with stewed tomotoes. The fish was cooked perfectly. Tender and flaky, not dried out and overcooked as often happens with fish. The two catfish fillets were very well seasoned and not overly spicy. The tater tots were a nice treat which I dipped in leftover ranch dressing from the fried green tomatoes and the okra was also cooked perfectly. Overall a great dish!
Two of my companions ordered the roasted pork chop and were both very happy with the chop and the portion size which was quite generous. Sides included baked potato, greens and cheesy grits, all of which were reported to be very well cooked, seasoned and tasty.
The final diner had roast venison cooked medium rare which was perfectly done and super tender. His sides were baked sweet potato and greens, which again were cooked perfectly. All meals came with two delicious hush puppies as well.
We finished the meal with a shared slice of sour orange pie, which has the consistency of key lime pie but tastes like a creamsicle. It was frickin' awesome!!! A perfect end to the meal.
This restaurant is a slice of genuine North Florida nostalgia. It has been around a very long time (and looks it, I might add.) but that's a big part of the charm. Frequented by local regulars, it's a great place to go for a delicious and interesting meal.
Take a walk through the restaurant once you're done and view the library filled with books that are for sale as well as a huge display of stuffed animals. You won't be disappointed!

Friday we pedaled from Boulware springs on the bike path (16 miles) so I timed the trip so we would have lunch here. There's a bike rack outside that we really appreciated.
It was a Sonny's BBQ once upon a time and the menu is very close. We both had sliced Turkey sandwiches with bbq beans on the side and ice tea. Everything tasted good and we were very pleased. $17 including tax, before tip.
Decor is tired from the early '80s so don't set your sights too high. Bathrooms need demolition and remodeling.
It looked like we were surrounded by locals and the staff knew their customers. Terri was our server and she was great. Don't be afraid to ask her what's good...she'll help you too I'm sure.
There's a scenic lake out back if you want to go see. BOTTOM LINE: We'll be back!

We "found" this place more or less by accident. This review is written about a year after our visit, but I'm sure things haven't changed.
The service was great, the food was good, and there was a large choice to eat.
We will visit Hawthorne again, and this will be the place we go for lunch.

I have been participating in Joy at this restaurant for more than 15 years. Their french fries are always scorching-hot and their burgers always made fresh. They wrap the burger and wax paper and then stick it in a baggie. Always perfectly greasy tasty. At one point I did get a ham and cheese sandwich which was absolutely fantastic but I'm a cheeseburger fanatic so that's the way I roll. I hear a lot of people ordering their chicken wings. I have never had them. I actually own a t-shirt from them end at one time they sold lighters which I purchased. I live in Jacksonville Florida and every time I visit my brother's family in Tampa make a side trip through Hawthorne in order 13 Burgers to bring to my brother, his wife and his son. Yes, 13. Go, and be happy!

This very nice small clean fish camp & RV park is great for camping also rent cabins out and of course great fishing. It has a nice little bait shop with small line of groceries & cold beer along with a small diner that serves up great food and friendly services.

Decided to stop in and have dinner as we were late getting back from an appointment. My husband had the Cuban and I had the meatball sandwich. Both were hot and delicious. Service is great and the people friendly!

It is in the Hawthorne Square Shopping Center. The staff was very friendly and quick with our order. They have the best Sweet Tea. The restroom was very clean. This subway is close to Hawthorne bike trail. Great place to get food after your ride.

The restaurant has all the typical Chinese dishes. They have eat-in and take out. The food is tasty, they serve good portions in a timely manner, and the people are friendly. One of my favorite items, though, isn't Chinese. It is their large, southern sweet tea.
