The Portal was revealed in the sixth season of the FX series of Justified. On a lark we drove from Minneapolis to Harlan, KY. We had lunch at the Portal and I'm here to testify that the thin crust pizza we had was in our top five of all time. The staff was helpful and friendly and we had a good time with them. If you are ever close, don't miss your chance to experience the Portal.

We were in town for a service trip, and each morning our vans stopped for water and ice at this Dairy Queen. To thank them we HAD to stop back for lots of DQ treats during our week-long stay. Very yummy!!!

I tried the gyros the Turkey was delicious. I thought wow I found my dream sandwich! Sad to say I took my daughter a couple days later to try this wonderful sandwich. They did not have the dressing that was supposed to be served with it. It was such a disappointment. Personally I believe if you are advertising something on your signs, you should be prepared to sale it.

The place is always busy lunch, dinner...weeknight or weekend...the reason the food is excellent. Been there three times and all dishes were very good. The staff is always rushing because they are so busy but always seem to have a smile.

I refuse to eat Chinese food anywhere but here since I only find myself comparing it to Panda Garden’s superior food. The food is fresh and delicious. They offer a daily lunch buffet mind through Friday. What a treat to be able to eat several of their dishes from the buffet. My family and I LOVE Panda Garden!

Service although friendly was initially slow.
The food was standard Mexican restaurant - and my colleague's dinner looked to be quite good. I chose the "american Steak", probably a mistake in a Mexican restaurant - which started out with the taste of the steak being quite good - but as I worked toward the bone (it was a T-bone steak), the taste became rather strange. But the rice & beans were good.
Mexican beer costs less than $4!
Choose the standard Mexican dishes and you will be fine.

Most people would call the Dairy hut simple, and it is. Simplicity is what makes it so special. Their foods aren't overly complicated but they are made fresh and from quality ingredients. The chili on their hot dogs is absolute perfection and nothing has ever come close to that for me. I've been coming to the Dairy hut for all of my life and so has pretty much everyone in my family. They have a little bit of everything, ranging from burgers to pizza sticks, and my personal all time favorite a foot long hot dog with chili, mustard and onions and a side of curly fries. The peanut butter shake is so rich and flavorful...another one of my favorites. This place used to be in a really small single wide trailer, but they have become so popular that they have remodeled and have a nice little dining area and kitchen, which they deserve. The staff is always so friendly and they make sure you have everything you could want. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience here. If you ever happen to be near Harlan, do yourself a favor and stop by this little place...I can guarantee you will be happy you did!!

To say that an Indian restaurant in Harlan is an oddity - is an understatement! But my client insisted that we go and have lunch there - in fact he said he goes every day!
Limited menu - but not limited to Indian.
They have pulled beef, grilled cheese sandwiches (which I am told are the best!), and on one occasion i was there they were serving fish tacos - which were excellent.
No alcohol, lunch only - and a limited selection of desserts.
But very friendly staff - and swift service. Great value for money.

When I'm in Harlan, I sometimes like to make a stop at Rax. I have been coming here since I was little and I've always enjoyed it. The food is like Arby's (They serve mostly roast beef sandwiches) but I think it tastes a bit better. The service is always really good, it's cheap and they have a pretty decent salad bar that I like to take advantage of. If you like roast beef sandwiches and fries, I'd definitely recommend it.
