Looking for an authentic Alaskan experience? Visit Haines. A popular cruise port, Haines is a great place to see the outdoors – hiking, fishing and wildlife viewing are all popular activities. A top local attraction is the decommissioned military outpost of Fort Seward, now an historic landmark. Bird watchers take note: the world's largest concentration of bald eagles comes to the area every autumn.

Great place, great servers and atmosphere. Food is amazing. Tried the Bamboo, absolutely gross and nasty. Fireweed was refreshing, and shockingly so after being so disappointed with the down hill slide of other restaurants in Haines, AK over the past number of years. Very good value for the quality and taste of food. Left full and pleased.

Specializing in specialty coffee, breakfast, and lunch. We are a cafe, and offer quality retail for locals and travelers alike. Situated on beautiful Main Street in Haines, The Rusty Compass has something for all, whether to simply grab and go or wanting to enjoy the cozy atmosphere for awhile.
The Rusty Compass was a pleasant surprise for us. Great coffee, tasty baked treats (both the cinnamon rolls and the caramel rolls were really good), and the fist wifi we had for a week... what could be better?
A family-owned and run business, it has good, friendly service and a welcoming, cozy feel to it. Highly recommended.

Good was good. Server acted as if she was better than us. Didn't come back to ask if we needed refills, we had to approach her. She didn't take our order right and got snotty when mentioned it was wrong. I wouldn't go back just because of her unwelcoming and snotty attitude.

I loved this location. There is good food to eat, great drinks and a fabulous little store stocked full of great, healthy foods and other useful items. We stocked up for our cross country trip at this location and had an amazing assortment of goodies to snack on while on the road.

Cute little drive through / stand up coffee bar, with an extensive menu for breakfast items, bagels etc. I was shocked at the menu, more extensive than some restaurants!
Coffee was good, we both had cappuccinos, and they didn't disappoint.
The staff were very friendly.
I thought it was expensive, probably because I was doing the Canadian - US conversion , so our two cups of coffee worked out to $12.33, or $9.00 US, having said that, higher than average prices are always expected in Haines because of their location. Now, having said that, there are still a few bargains in town if you shop around!

It's about 40 minutes from Haines and has a really cool dining room. The food everyone in our group had was ok but when ordering the salmon burger you would expect a piece of salmon. No, it was a salmon patty with unappetizing spices which resulted in Tums...Tums...Tums. and a long drive back to boot.

My local friends suggested the Commander's Room; they said it was the best place in town, and I believe them! It's a lovely room in an historic hotel, and is very bright, charming, classy and welcoming. Melissa our waitress was delightful, professional, sweet and fun all rolled into one. She did a great job and made us feel very welcome. There was a nice wine list, but they should have an ice bucket to keep the bottles of white wine cold at the table. The menu was excellent and all of our dishes were beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and very tasty. The ribeye was enormous and fabulous. The halibut was beautiful. We tried a number of desserts and they were all excellent, but I was disappointed there was no rhubarb for the rhubarb crisp. They replaced it with raspberries which were good... but just not the same. All in all, a great place.

The best fish&chips in Haines!
We were recommended Al's Salmon shack from our RV park, and unfortunately it was closed that night. We had some for lunch the next day, and although not cheap, it was really good. It seems to be only open for lunch at the moment.

This restaurant has great food. If you are craving Thai or asian food, it is your only option in Haines. The staff are friendly and helpful. Some of the Thai girls don't speak great English so make sure to speak clearly. The food is not cheap, but nothing in Haines is. Breakfast prices are way high, even for Haines, but dinner and Thai food is more on par with everything else here.

They had the greatest cheeseburgers. Worth the hunt it took me thru town to find a place that was open and that served cheeseburgers. I checked in 3 other places before I found this one.
