Grand Marais is a city in Cook County, Minnesota, United States. It is a northern village located on the shores of Lake Superior, and a vibrant, bustling town. The population was 1,351 at the 2010 census. It is also the county seat and sole municipality of Cook County. Prior to inhabitation by white settlers and prior to Minnesota’s statehood, Grand Marais was inhabited by the Anishinaable indigenous people, the thriving woodland people also known as the Ojibwe. The Ojibwe name for the area is Gichi-biitoobiig, which means "great duplicate water," "parallel body of water" or "double body of water" (like a bayou), a reference to the two bays which form the large harbor off Lake Superior.

We planned late afternoon cross country skiing at nearby Bearskin Lodge followed by dinner at Trail Center. It was a great day and Trail Center made it even better with excellent service and food! This is the place on the Gunflint Trail NOT to be missed for any meal of the day!

We are on the corner of Wisconsin Street and Broadway. Look for the cute little red building with the white scallops.
During our 6th trip to Grand Marais, we finally stopped in to "Worlds Best Donuts"! Bought four on our first visit on Sunday. Ate two right away and saved two for breakfast on Monday morning. ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL On Sunday - and I would still rate the two we ate on Monday morning (one day old) as among the best I have eaten! We went back on Monday, early afternoon - to buy a half dozen more treats for the 6 hour drive home and for Tuesday morning breakfast! Folks - keep in mind we came off of a serious Atkins, low-carb diet to sample these. Absolutely NO regrets! Back to the Atkins diet on Wednesday! MAKE THIS STOP if you LOVE a GREAT pastry!!

When you enter the door you will feel like you should be in line with Matthew Matheau and John Lemmon as a guest star in Grumpy Old Men. This is how every true Minnesotan Coffee shop should be. The décor is not to be missed...MoreThank Logan for stopping in AND appreciating our decor:) We strive to not only create great beverages, but also to make everyone feel at home in the North Woods. Appreciate your business and taking the time to review us!

Wood fired pizza and salads to cap off our frigid waterfall hiking day! Becky was attentive, and speedy. Hostess kept our water glasses full and the smiles coming. Delicious food prepared simply and carefully. For dessert, maple bacon creme brûlée! A fine experience.

We loved eating at this little cafe. They offer several different kinds of dogs besides ice cream and such. The view is really lovely and sometimes they have live music. It is worth finding this treasure.

Lemon scones and hazelnut brownies. I normally like neither, but we bought some for our picnic drive. No regrets and they didn't even make it to the picnic! Stock some up at the local coop. They made it to the hotel for an evening snack.

First time dinning here. Cozy & quaint cafe with great food and beer & wine selection. They do not take reservations however the wait is usually less that forty-five minutes. Menu selection varies as do the prices varying on selections. Portion sizes are nice, with the plating being very eye appealing.

The $5 meal especially for kids is great. Everyone gets what they want and ice cream for dessert. No surprises is good when you are traveling. The staff were pleasant and smiled. When we were there two sheriffs walked in we paid for their lunches unknowing to them who we were. Consider doing the same it makes you feel good inside.

Hughie's is a fast and affordable Taco House which offers homemade food items including our "puff Taco". WINTER HOURS are limited, see below
Stopped to grab lunch to take my daughter for her work lunch break (and lunch for me, too). Service was fast and super friendly. My daughter moved to the North Shore recently and had never eaten at Hughie’s before. She raved and we are going back today. Can’t go wrong if you’re into delicious, puff shell tacos.

The Clearwater Lodge has been producing the finest pies and pastries in the region for decades with recipes going back to the founding families. Best crust. Best rhubarb. Best cinnamon buns. Best everything. You simply can't go wrong. Do take a few minutes to sit on the deck of this historic lodge and look down Clearwater lake at the stunning palisades and other features.
And Tori has taken over the kitchen from Gloria with recipes both old and new. Even greater things are coming.
