Brick House Deli

Reviewed By ANNAMARGARET B - PORT ALLEGANY

We were getting a bit drowsy on our four hour road trip and planned to stop at Sheetz in Coudersport for coffee, when my husband remembered the Brick House in Galeton. This has been the retirement project of a couple from Philly area, who serve up comfort consistently. We were met at the door - they usually close at two on week days but will stay open as people arrive. We had homemade chili, redolent of a bit of Greek style cinnamon and Philly cheesesteak sandwich, gooey with cheese, mushrooms and roasted red pepper. Help yourself to unlimited coffee or cappucino. All in an old brick house from the 1890s, this cafe become a welcome and familiar fixture on Route 6.

Selection is very nice, food cooked perfectly, french fries were the best! Generous portions. Looking forward to returning. We were here for a Red Hat lunch and they were very accommodating. No complaints for our group of 12, in fact we plan to return there next month. Priced very reasonable.

Nothing fancy here. No pretensions. Not pretty either. We both had burgers. They were hearty, standard fare. We split an order of onion rings. They had Yuengling on tap, which suited my husband. The entire tab was about $22. Can't beat that.

Went here the night of the Dickens Festival in Wellsboro. Bar was basically empty but the bartender [owner?] was in the midst of paperwork so service was initially slow. BUT, then things got better. His "secret recipe" Bloody Mary was the best I've had and, of course, he would not divulge his secret ingredients....DRATS! Soup and salad bar is tasty and has a nice selection. Our salmon on a plank was excellent. This was our 2nd time here and we will return again. Reservations recommended.

The Farm At Pine Creek

A local resident recommended this food truck, I'm guessing 2 or 3 miles west of Galeton on U.S. Route 6. The proprietor is an accomplished chef and uses all local products in her breakfast sandwiches and other products. I had a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on salt-raising bread, which was absolutely delicious. They're made to order. I could have also had it on a homemade bagel or croissant, and had a choice of three kinds of cheese. There were complimentary "grandma's donuts," which reminded me of Pennsylvania Dutch fastnachts, for anyone who knows what that is. She also serves Starbucks coffee "to bring a little urban flavor to northern Pennsylvania." A memorable breakfast, along the roadside on a crisp, clear north woods morning.

Stopped here for lunch while out on a bike ride today. Hadn't been here in a few years, but used to stop often for a BLT. We sat in the bar area that had plenty of room for our riding gear.

Decided to try something different so I went for the Chicken Philly Sandwich on a long roll. Grilled chicken chopped with Philly Cheese and optional lettuce with fries for under $10. The sandwich was big and had lots of chicken. It was very good. If I get it again, I think I'll ask for it toasted. The fries were better than most places.

My passenger got the Oxe Burger and loved it. She couldn't eat the whole thing so they wrapped it for later. Good place to have a good meal..

Been there quite a few times. Breakfast is inexpensive and tasty. Ate there for dinner 2 times and won't be back. Place needs updating, no pictures decorations or anything, no music . Plane drywalled walls, cheap hard booths and never very warm in the winter. Service is good but as I stated breakfast seems to be they're thing

Germania Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By BFAW2 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

OK, Right across the street from the Germania General Store is an old building that is called the Germania Hotel and looks like it might be open. I was staying in the area, had been to the Germania General Store (across the street remember) and had driven past this area maybe six times without "seeing" the Germania Hotel. A friend who was also in the area suggested we eat at the Germania Hotel restaurant since they had eaten there the night before and it was very good. The front looks like it is boarded up with plywood and is screaming for a coat of paint. Parking was easy, there were two patrons sitting at the bar chatting with the bartender and I guessed they walked because there were no other cars in the lot. We walked in and it was a bar, a regular kind of bar with a TV and a small table area in the rear. We sat down and the bartender took our drink order and handed us menus. The two guys sitting at the bar left (this is about six pm on a summer Sunday evening), the bartender returned with our drinks and took our orders. He started out by telling us that there were only 8 wings left because it was an extremely busy day. I ordered a Delmonico steak with mashed potatoes and the bartender says, "I will be serving you a baked potato with your steak and you can mash it if you like" with a smile on his face....we all laughed. It turns out the bartender was also the cook that night and did an excellent job of treating us like we were the only four people in the place. The steak was excellent, done perfectly, and the potato was baked. One of our party ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and said it was truly one of the best she has ever had...and this is a person that has eaten a lot of grilled cheese. It seems the bread was rough cut and loaded with cheese. Don't know about desert, we were stuffed and headed to the top of Cherry Springs State Park to watch an almost unbelievable show of stars in one of the darkest places on the East coast. Stop in to the Germania Hotel for lunch or dinner, say hi to the bartender, relax, enjoy...this is truly a gem of a restaurant. I think there really are rooms for rent...didn't ask.

This is a bar and restaurant.First time here. Hamburgers are 13 ounce, hand made patty, cooked as you wish,on a kieser roll buttered and grilled. Enough lettuce, tomato, etc to make a salad. Not something I should eat everyday, but wow, was it good. My husband and I should have split one hamburger. Service excellent.

The pizza is OK. My suggestion is to get it to-go and then eat it on the benches overlooking the town and lake. This was pretty pleasant. I say this because the place it not appealing; dirty and worn. If I had remembered that the convenience store across the road sold Pugie's Pizza, I probably would have gone there. But, if you want pizza, it does the job.
