While visiting Illinois with family, I was invited to dinner at DiMaggio's. Their menu was varied with mostly Italian fare and there was an additional salad bar. We decided on a pizza with our favorite toppings. The pizza was delicious . It was not cut in the usual wedge pattern, but in a smaller manner which made it easier to share and eat.

This location can get very busy during the lunch hour. The staff are able to keep up and get food out quickly. We ordered inside and sat down. We had our items in just a few minutes. The drive up appeared to have several cars in it during the entire time we were there. The customers coming into the lobby, continued throughout the half hour or so we were there eating. The food was fresh and great tasting. A high quality Dairy Queen.

Have loved Taco Tierra for over 40 years. Grew up on Sanchos and Apple Tierra's. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out! Chicken soft tacos are great, too!

I must say this restaurant was one I looked forward to visiting upon returning to Illinois after wintering in Wy. I returned for the smoked brisket which I Love. Entering the restaurant the pleasant aroma of smoked meat wafts the air triggering my" yummy" senses. The host led me to a booth per my request. My server was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, very attentive she was a "sweetie". This visit I came for the sliced brisket plate which comes with choice of two sides. I opted for the house made batter dipped onion rings and house made slaw. The Flat Iron makes about everything from scratch by the way. Was not disappointed, every bite was delicious. Oh, must mention the crisp fresh potato chips with cheese sauce which was complimentary as appetizer, yum. Restaurant is always clean, light bluesy music was playing and atmosphere relaxed and casual. I do recommend "Flat Iron" and of course will go again while here, and will take an order of bread pudding home for later, again.

Our family ate at Five Brother's for breakfast. The food was good, but the portions were huge. A half-portion of biscuits and gravy would have been fine for my robust husband. The sausage and hash browns were excellent also. The waitress attended to our needs quite well.

We admit it. We don't like interstates and fast food places. And if we have time on road trips, we avoid both like the plague. Recently on a Paducah to Champaign trek on perfectly fine state roads, we found ourselves in Fairfield, Illinois at lunch time.
First glance at the Barb Wire Bar and Grill isn't the most inviting in the world. (It used to be a gas station with a bay on the side to lube cars.) But there were cars out front and a few more in a side street lot, so it looked to us like the locals were there.
They were. Almost before we were seated, we outsiders were engaged in conversation with the locals - baseball, the weather, their high school's football homecoming that night, etc. You name it.
Our lunch was fine. The service was friendly and speedy. It was a good stop. We are happy to recommend the Barb (for owner Barbara) Wire Bar and Grill of Fairfield, Illinois.

We had dinner with family at this restaurant. There were several diners there, and we soon learned why. The food was excellent. Each of us had a different entree (chicken, shrimp, enchiladas, etc) and we were all pleased. The portions were large and the prices were reasonable. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will eat there again when we are in town.

If you are in Fairfield you can get a pretty good pizza here. Be warned if you go during the lunch buffet they have a very short supply and selection of pizzas to choose from. Often they will run out. This can be frustrating.

My husband said it would be better if they made their sandwiches like the picture shows. It depends who waits on you as to how they put the veggies on. Our favorite dressing is the Sweet Onion
