We were at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering and decided to go to the Star Hotel for dinner. We got there at 4:00 and waited in the bar until the restaurant started seating at 4:30. By 4:30 the line for dinner was packed. We were seated quickly (as we were there early) and the service was good. The Basque cabbage soup was so good as well as the bread and salad, just lettuce with their special dressing. Then comes the spaghetti, green beans, red beans, garbanzo beans, fries and your entree. We had the bacon wrapped filet mignon and it was perfect. Had one of their Picon Punch which is strong but good. By the time we left there the place was so full of people waiting that we could hardly get through the crowd to get outside. If you go there, get there early.

You don't find a lot of pastie places around and that is too bad.
They make traditional pasties here and crazy ones too. First time we went, we got chicken and rice ones, beef, beef and onion, and chicken tikka masala. Wow - that curry one was awesome. Next time we came, the tikka masala wasn't available but they had some other interesting varieties. But, the tikka masala is my favorite. We took the traditional ones home to my mother in law.
You can buy them hot or frozen. We usually munch on a freshly baked hot pastie and take a dozen or so frozen ones home with us. They also bottle their own sauce for them - sort of a sweet and slightly spicy red sauce (not ketchup) that is very nice. Though the pasties work on their own.
They also make pies. My mother in law loves any kind of pastry, so we take home several for her. They are small pies - a little bigger than a frozen pot pie. She loves the rhubarb, the pecan, the peach and the apple.

Best espresso in Elko!! Plus lots of other fancy foamed, frothed and blended coffee drinks. Bakery items to add sugar to your caffeine, too!!

Great coffee, organic and made with care. Service is good, but they sometime only have 1 person on staff and when it gets busy, it is very frustrating. However, even then the Server is always pleasant and just wants to service each customer to the best of their ability. Love this place!!

I've eaten here many time, why, because they do have an excellent top shelf margarita. Great chips and salsa is served almost immediately. Service i good. The entree's are your typical fare. everything is bland to say the least. Maybe I'm expecting more from a average size Mexican restaurant in a hole in the wall city like Elko.

This is a great little restaurant! I go to Elko every year for the Cowboy Poetry Gathering. This place is well situated right down town, on the same block as the Western Folklife Center, and only about a block from Capriola's. The restaurant is clean, with a pleasant, homey decor. The service is courteous, cheerful, and efficient. The food is very good. I usually get their bison burger, but I've had several of their entrees over the years. The bison burger is generously proportioned, tender, and VERY flavorful. Bison has a wonderful "beefier than beef" taste, and is very lean. Their salads are nice and fresh and crisp. I always go at least once when I'm in Elko.
