After a few nights of subpar dining in mackinaw city, we decided to venture out a little further. We were happy to find the pier. The food was great and the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. It was exactly what we were looking for! If you don't mind a little drive from Machinaw City, it's definitely one of the best places we've found.

Small authentic coffee house in Downtown Cheboygan. All drinks are made to order. Also serving fresh baked scones as cereal bars, along with carrot cake, muffins, cookies, brownies, bagels, cheesecake and tiramisu. Salads and wraps available.
My wife and I stopped in while on vacation. Our lattes were okay but nothing special. Our service time was acceptable but her attitude seemed to on more of indifference than welcoming or helpful, unless you were one of the regulars. Then there were smiles and conversation. In short, if you just need a caffeine fix you will be fine, but atmosphere will most likely be a toss up.

I had the ice cream that the waffle cone is your bowl. When I ordered it I wasn't quite sure of my options. There were 2 young gals, maybe High School students, that were working. They were both helpful with suggestions and informing me of what they had that could be put on my DQ creation. Both gals were neat, clean, polite, and professional. The work area looked spotless, the dining area had 3 tables in use with 7 people seated it was all clean and orderly. The gal made my Waffle Bowl nicely that it resembled the picture on the wall (that doesn't always happen). A nice place to duck into to get an ice cream of some sorts. I recommend stopping and getting a nice DQ creation from here.

The pizza was great. We went back the next day for dinner. The walleye was questionable, the grilled chicken breast was dry and tough. The service was great, the atmosphere was not that great, but nice people working there.

Hearty portions! Great prices! Fresh baked bread & homemade soup! Independently owned!
We greatly enjoyed our breakfast at Step Inn. My blueberry pancakes were huge and had about half a pint of blueberries in them (that's barely an exaggeration!)! My husband said his omelette was delicious; the toast is great too. Our server was very friendly, the tables were clean, the food came quickly, and prices were very reasonable. We will be back!

As you will discover Alice's Restaurant is a Cheboygan institution with a strong local customer base and has been discovered by travelers. As a breakfast and luncheon destination (Friday evening fish fry also), they excel at both with daily specials offered for each meal. Today, I had their clam chowder with a Reuben sandwich. The soup was excellent (nice fresh taste) and the sandwich was hot off the grill served with potato chips. Other items ordered at the table included their home-made pancakes and scrambled eggs. Everything was prepared as ordered. And, even when very busy their service is always attentive and personable.

We ventured out in our bowrider on a calm day with good forecast. Entered Cheboygan River, enjoyed utilizing the city's lock to travel downstream, had a peaceful trip at a no-wake speed down to Hack-Ma-Tack. Docked right in front. After cocktails on board, we ventured in - right at 5:00 opening time. Charming restaurant in log cabin/up north adventure style decor and excellent meal. Made it back to St. Ignace before sunset. This was one of those unforgettable excursions. Wonderful.
