I have never gotten a bad cake from SugarBakers. Cakes are large, have expertly applied icing and excellent taste. Presentation is beautiful too -- unless you purchase with a Groupon. You get all of the above and whatever you want written on the cake. But you don't get any other topping. No flowers, real or made of icing, and not even if you offer to pay extra for them. I left with my Groupon-purchased cake in April and felt that the policy that would not allow the kind and apologetic young woman to sell me some sort of topping (I would have paid as much as $10 extra to save having to go to a store to buy a small bouquet) was misguided. No explanation for the policy was given, but as a regular customer I felt management wanted to give its full-price paying customers the added touch that made their added expense worthwhile. But think about it: Customers don't generally look into each other's boxes to see who has what or how much it did cost. We go there to get our purchase and get it home without shifting the cake in the car. That is all that is on our minds. I don't worry about who paid what. I wish the store would reconsider what comes off as being very mean-spirited and even resentful that cakes go out the door at a reduced cost. It also misses out of an opportunity to make more money by charging for the topping for Groupon purchases. I'd pay. I am sure others would too. Really, is it asking too much for a cake to be as beautiful as it could possibly be and be willing to pay for it? As much as I love SugarBakers cakes, I am looking around for another bakery that puts customer satisfaction above policies that come off as being mean-spirited.

We stopped here for breakfast and decided to eat outside since the weather was cooler. My husband ordered eggs with potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were delicious. I ordered the BLT on rye and a cup of fruit. The BLT was one of the best I have had for a long, long time. Service was courteous and efficient.

We had been to Atwaters several times in the past at the recommendation of our daughter, and we thoroughly enjoyed their creative menu items (largely sandwiches, soups, and baked goods) . On those occasions, we ordered at the front desk and then, after receiving our order, walked up a flight of stairs where the dining area was. This time we stopped in for a mid-afternoon lunch, and we were pleased to see that they have remodeled the interior and now have tables of varying sizes on the first floor, and they also now have table service as well as "do it yourself" and carryout.
The menu is not huge, but it does have a variety of unique sandwiches and salads listed. When I asked if they still serve soup, the waitperson brought me a small separate menu showing three soups - all different varieties of chili. I chose the white bean chili and a portabella sandwich on toasted 7-grain bread. My wife ordered a pastry cup that contained a generous portion of roasted curry vegetables and also came with a side salad of fresh greens and almonds.
This turned out to be a wonderful lunch. The white bean chili was honestly the best of that type I've ever had The portabella sandwich was outstanding, and it was so big that I brought home half to use for another meal. My wife also was effusive in praise of her dish, saying, "I definitely want to come back to get this again." As we went up to pay the tab, we also could not resist some of the baked items (e.g., scones, muffins, cupcakes, and small bite-size goods) they had in the display case, so we added some of those to our take-home bag to have for breakfast tomorrow.
This was such a good experience that I asked the waitperson if I could speak to the person who prepared the meals. I told the young woman who came out what a great and delicious surprise this total lunch had been, and I asked her to pass along our compliments to anyone else who had anything to do with the preparation.
This place will continue to be a much-desired stop anytime we are in the Catonsville area.

They do not have a liquor license so everyone was bring beverages from the liquor store across the street. Tea, coffee or Pepsi products. Couldn't they at least make a lemonade or something? Food was quite good with nice sized portions. Dessert was nice and we brought some home.

If you are tired of soft supermarket bread and of supermarket attempts at "French" or "Italian" loaves, this is the bakery for you. Although they make fine sandwich style loaves of sliced bread, I will concentrate on their artisan, "crusty" loaves.
The artisan loaves are generally made early in the morning to go on sale when the bakery opens. The loaves are hand-formed. The baguettes are excellent. The sourdough breads are crusty and have just the right amount of tang. Because of the acidic starter, the sourdoughs will remain tasty for many days.
A plus is that the bakery uses the proper bags with micro perforations for your artisan loaves--the only area bakery that does so. Do yourself and the bread a favor and do not ask them to slice it for you--slice pieces at home as you need them.
This place will not disappoint lovers of good, honest breads. Worth a drive to the old mill town of Oella. BTW--believe it or not-the bakery is housed in a former roller rink.

Brilliant! From the wonderful, warm friendly service to the fantastic food, Scittino's is absolutely wonderful.
The Deli makes the most incredible sandwiches - thick and juicy and stuffed with delicious ingredients! The Italian Cold Cut sub is made with real Italian - mortadella, salami, cheeses - I dare you to eat the whole thing! Their Ruebens and Rachels drip down your fingers - chin - elbows! They're real 6 napkins sandwiches. The bread - I have to talk about the bread! REAL - the subrolls are crusty and chewy - ready to soak up the juicies! The rye toast is thick and crunchie - yet soft on the inside - beautifully buttered and toasted on the grill! The chicken wings - are THE BEST in the area! They are ENORMOUS! I wouldn't want to run into the chicken they came from! Yet - they're served screaming hot - crispy with the perfect buffalo sauce! And don't forget the friend chicken! The pieces you want perfectly breaded - juicy and crispy! Served with fries and slaw! - a perfect meal. Or actually 2 meals! Plenty to take home!
And now the pizza! PERFECT! The proportions of crust to sauce to cheese to meat is perfection! The crust so thin and light! The sauce is their homemade marinara and the meats are the best quality available. The absolute best pizza we've ever eaten.
The butcher shop is classic - old world charm! Like everything else at Scittinios it focuses on customer service. The co-owner, Sal, and son Lenny and the rest of the guys are ready to help you out! The quality of the food is unsurpassed! The prices are crazy reasonable - in many cases better than the local supermarkets. You can't beat it! There's nothing like a Scittinos Prime Rib for Christmas dinner! Nothing better!
Thank you all our Scittino Friends! See you later this week!

Ordered at the counter, then sat and waited for food to be delivered. Staff were friendly. Food arrived relatively quickly. I had the calamari, which was pretty good. Also tried an antipasto salad, which was also pretty good. Tasted an Italian cold-cut sandwich, which, again, was also pretty good. Prices not too high. Nothing amazing to me about this place, but it seems like a dependable place to stop for a meal.

Stopped in for lunch between viewing houses on the Catonsville Historic Homes Tour and the placed was packed due to a birthday party being held right in the front section of the place. Never the less the unique Honey Lime Chicken pizza was very good, the wait times were still good and the Mediterranean salad was OK. It took some maneuvering to get to the soda machine and we did find a table in the back part of the shop that carries ice cream.

Friends and family gathered for a birthday dinner at Umami, a vegan friendly restaurant we had heard good things about.
Fresh ingredients, plentiful servings, and good service were wonderful.
Unfortunately, several of us simply didn't care for their seasonings.
You may love the taste, though, so give Umami a try, and decide for yourself.

The staff here is incredibly friendly and the food is always brought to your table hot. The shoestring fries are a must have and be sure to ask for a copy of the secret menu. My favorite sandwich is the wingin' it with shoestring fries and a small cup of soup. Another local favorite is the crabby melt (my wife loves it but I'm allergic to shellfish). You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. This place is a local gem!! Oh, and they have a UMBC discount!
