I usually go here when I am in the mood for breakfast and all the breakfast places are closed. They have a full menu.

This place is always great, especially for pies and other baked goods. Their burgers are also delicious. Every time we get to Long Beach we make sure to stop by. The portions are large and the prices are small.
I think they make the best pies in the Los Angeles area. I'm partial to coconut cream, unless they have fresh peach or strawberry pie.
We also love to bring home some of their frozen chicken pot pies.

This warehouse-like eatery in Gardena is a most welcome addition to an area sorely lacking in Italian restaurants. It's a downscale version of EATALY, the mega-restaurant operation with locations in Los Angeles (Century City), New York, Chicago, Boston and European cities. For what it is, this is probably the best Italian food in the South Bay, but it's a very low bar. The pizza, for example, is good, but not great. Yes, the crust is thin as it ought to be and yes, thank the food gods, they don't pile on a bunch of artery-clogging toppings, yet... I could be mistaken, but sitting at the counter as I peered into the pizza oven, I'm pretty sure I saw gas flames. There was a "wooden log" towards the front of the oven, but I think that was there for "show" only. I'd bet money the pizza oven is gas-powered. Why does that matter? It matters because that's the difference between wood-fired ovens and gas ovens in terms of how the crust turns out - blistered or not. In this case, NOT. With the flavor you can only get from a wood-burning oven or not. In this case, NOT. As for the pastas, the good news is that they are cooked al dente. BRAVO! Sadly, when it comes to authenticity in pasta, we Italians do not like overly sauced pasta. The pasta I ordered (penne arrabiata) was tasty enough, but badly oversauced. The generous portion was too much for me to eat in one sitting, so I took the leftover pasta home and scraped off most of the sauce the next morning and thoroughly enjoyed it cold out of the fridge - the ultimate compliment to a good pasta. Eatalian features a "house wine" list. Those wines are undrinkable. I'm glad I asked for a taste before ordering a brand name glass of wine from the fairly decently curated wine list. I cannot imagine anyone naming this as a favorite restaurant in America. There are way too many spectacularly good Italian restaurants in Los Angeles alone that are far, far superior to Eatalian ( including Osteria Angelini, Bestia, Jon & Vinny's, L'Opera, EATALY, etc. to name a few), to call this a "best restaurant" in America, but if you substitute the phrase "South Bay," for the word "America," this is by far the best Italian restaurant in the South Bay. For me, I'll go back to Eatalian when I'm in the area, but I wouldn't drive any distance to eat there.

A friend of mine and I decided to meet and have lunch at Mitsuwa in Torrance. I introduced him to Okonomiyaki, which means "how or what you like." It sort of a pancake with a variety ingredients. He had the squid and shrimp version, I have the beef and pork. It was served on a sizzling cast iron plate and the portions are large. We agreed that both our lunches were delicious and we had enough to take home for another light meal or snack. Then we went shopping. Mitsuwa is a very large store and they carry tons of stuff you cannot find in most super markets. I never seem to leave without spending a goodly amount on Japanese inspired cuisine.

What a fun restaurant with cute decor! We dined at 'Back Home in Lahaina' on a Saturday night and there was live music and entertainment which was great! The food was good, but not excellent. Our party of seven tried various menu choices including Mahi-mahi, BBQ chicken, sliders, Kalbi beef and fried chicken. All meals were served with the traditional rice and macaroni salad! The wait staff was pleasant and attentive! Really enjoyable dining experience at Back Home in Lahaina! It made us long for the islands!

Located in a strip mall near the huge IKEA in Carson is this gelato and coffee bar. At night, you can't miss the bright store with the neon lighting.
We stopped here on a Saturday night, and just missed the rush. A string of young people were leaving with treats in their hands. Upon walking in, the first thing we saw was the display of various gelatos, ranging from the common chocolate to quirky captain crunch to exotic rose gelato. The girls were happy to give you a sample to try, but I felt like I was being rushed to decide on a dessert.
There's no menu on the wall but rather a booklet menu, with pages and pages of things to select, from fresh brew coffee, teas, mixed coffees and a range of various bean origins. Quite honestly it was a bit overwhelming. Some may say there's a good variety, but I almost felt like walking out.
Then there's the various desserts, from crepes, gelatos, the gelato panini, which is a bread filled with gelato and then pressed, so the bread is hot, but the gelato inside is cold. You can also get sweet or savory crepes, paninis and their version of the loco moco.
Staff is friendly but the way the place is set up, can seem confusing. They have booklet menus but they don't take your order at the tables (which the place only had a handful of tables). The queue is in front of the cash register between 2 short red velvet ropes, so the order and pick up line area is not that spacious. They're trying to do too many things at once.
I enjoyed my visit, but in no way think its a 5 star review.
In the end, Stephen got the Japanese cold brewed coffee, I got the 99 cent medio coffee (I forgot what bean I decided on) and we shared the gelato panini, filled with rose gelato and nutella. The Japanese coffee was a bit pricy at $4 for a medium cup. My coffee at 99 cents (for checking in on yelp) was a bargain, but with out the check in special, my 2 coffee and dessert would have set me back over $15.

Established in 1963, Torrance restaurant and cocktail lounge serving prime rib, steak, and seafood.
Can you go back in time? You can at the San Franciscan. I'm not sure if it was the surly waitstaff, the lipstick red booths, or the average age of the bar crowd, but neither the menu nor the decor have been updated since the late 80's.
The food is generally fine, especially if you consider quantity for the price an important measure. $20 in food will be more than enough...

What a wonderful place, filled with happy customers! My husband and I enjoyed exploring around this deli. We were surrounded by intoxicating aromas of freshly prepared foods, as well as an attractive case of to-go Italian delights, reasonably-priced wines and creatively fun cheeses. We ordered two dinners, a clam linguini and an oil and garlic fettuccine; a pizza and a bunch of exotic cheeses. The dinners were crazy good. There was so much food that each dinner actually covered four dinners! The garlic in both dishes was the best ever. We baked the pizza in our oven at home and it was yummy! We are enjoying the selection of delicious cheeses from hot wasabi horseradish aged cheddar cheese to natural hot pepper muenster cheese. Due to very limited seating, we had to take everything home. Checkout was efficient and friendly. We have just one warning. Parking is available on the main street in front of the deli but you need to back out very carefully to avoid an accident. Drive carefully and eat well!

I stopped by this Starbucks located in a strip mall not far from the Alondra Blvd exit of the 91 Fwy to meet an associate. The place looks like any other Starbucks, although we found this one a little smaller, but they do offer outdoor seating as well. Two comfy chairs inside of course were taken by people who seem to their business out of a coffee shop for hours on end. So as usual that means sitting in whichever chairs are left. We sat outside. While we ordered just plain coffee of the day, we found the offering only lukewarm, which is unusual. They gladly exchanged the order for a new and fresh one, which was not any hotter and we left it at that. Unfortunately as well this branch closes at 9 p.m., very early and we had to leave quite unexpected.
