Carencro (/ˈkærənkroʊ/; historically French: St.-Pierre) is a small city in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is a suburb of the nearby city of Lafayette. The population was 7,526 at the 2010 census, up from 6,120 in 2000. Its name is derived from the Cajun French word for buzzard: the spot where the community was settled was one where large flocks of buzzards roosted in the bald cypress trees. The name means "carrion crow."

We went to the Cro for lunch today. I had heard Veronica's Cafe was good so we decided to try it out. I must say I have had better plate lunches, but it may have just been our selection. Our sides were potato salad and cole slaw, which were very good. My entree was shrimp stew with boiled egg, which I found a little thin for stew, and the rice was on the dry side. The shrimp were ok, though plentiful. DH had fried shrimp, which had sat out under a lamp for some time, so not the best.
We are hoping next time will be the plate lunch for which we heard such high praise.

Straight forward doughnut shop with all my favorites. The apple fritters are the best. Lots of choices including King cakes during Mardi Gras season. They open very early and on Sat or Sun am they will be crowded.

It's a lil cafe inside of Guilbeaus pharmacy. The food is delicious. They have the best shrimp and grits in the area. The brisket sandwich is awesome. It a coffee house type atmosphere. Seniors meet there regularly for brunch. They have smoothies, salads, soups and daily specials. They also have a gift shop adjacent to The cafe. It's a one stop shop for , meds, good and gifts. A hidden men in carencro.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and really enjoyed the place and the food. You don't go for atmosphere, but for someone from far away, the hub bub, smells, friendly chatter of customers and staff all speak to a great Cajun tradition: friends sharing great food. Tried the smoked sausage, two pounds of smoked boudin and a link of the crawfish boudin. Now I am telling you, that is good eating! They offer jalepeno boudin also and many other choices of boudin balls, some mixed with cheese. Coolers along wall are stocked with many great Cajun foods, meats and meals as well as refreshments. Get there if you can.

while visiting Carencro for a funeral, a friend recommended us to eat at Fricassee. We trusted her recommendation and we went. Fricassee has the charm of a New Orleans style uptown gourmet brunch place, family owned with great service. Everything in the menu looks exquisite, our food was seriously delicious! Prices are low compared to the top level quality food they serve.
Highly recommend! Worth 2 hours drive to eat there.

After a friend recommended this place, we stopped there while driving through Louisiana. More a store than restaurant, there are a few tables you can sit at, but otherwise you might be out of luck. We ordered the boudin (as he insisted) and could not eat it. It was wet, stringy, mealy and odd. So we tried a hamburger. A hamburger is safe, right? No. I have no idea what meat was used for the patty, but it tasted off and was just too dry to eat. Not one to give up on a friend's insistent recommendation, we tried a shrimp poboy. Okay, that was fine, but honestly not worth the detour from our trip. Can I recommend this place? No, not for us. However, it seems popular with the locals and they've found something we missed. Try it if you like a new experience, but avoid the boudin.

Great Old Fashion Ice Cream Shop!! Ice Cream and shakes were great!! I did not get to try it but the Frito Pie looked good(Frito's topped with Chili and Cheese ). Wish I had ordered the banana split. Didn't see it until after eating my ice cream but it looked amazing.

Our restaurant occupies the oldest commercial building constructed in the historic district of downtown Carencro (1901). The team at Swanky's is focused on providing a family friendly atmosphere coupled with delicious cajun cooking. We proudly celebrate Louisiana's culture and heritage. Don't let our name fool you, as we try not to take ourselves too seriously! After all, we consider Swanky's to be the type of restaurant our favorite comedic personas Boudreaux and Thibodeaux would frequent for their "fine dining".
We were told about this restaurant by word of mouth. We went on a Wednesday night just after opening. Restaurant already had quite a few people there. It is a nice restaurant off the beaten path, seating is somewhat limited as the place was full very shortly after our arrival. We were waited on quickly. The waitress was really nice. Our order arrived quite fast for the amount of people there. Food was really good. We were checked on regular. There is a live band there also. We really enjoyed the visit there.

Place was recommended by an older gentleman met at the interpretive center. The fried oysters with jalapenos were good but a bit pricey for this neck of the country. The snapper my wife had was a good size snd was good. The tilapia was a good portion except I don't like eggplant, the sauce with shrimp on the fish was good. The service was very good on a Saturday night at 6:30.
