SAMs is a nice burger joint with good old fashion nostalgia. It is everything my parents remember and more. They have great burger baskets and menu items that will please the whole family!

Unassuming from the street - typical small town tavern/eatery. Hometown decor with the most friendly staff you will ever experience. The menu is limited but full of flavor and a big city taste. Stopped on a Friday night with my wife for a quick supper. Promptly seated and ordered drinks. I ordered scallops and my wife ordered frog legs. Without a doubt the best we have had in years! They have a huge salad bar and homemade soups that will leave you wanting more. If you are in the area, I highly recommend trying out "The Nickel". You will not be disappointed.

We went to this restaurant when we first moved and were disappointed. The food was greasy, the meat was unseasoned, and the service was negligible at best. We decided to try again and give them the benefit of the doubt and were disappointed a second time. "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." Better to try your luck for decent Mexican food at Fiesta Cancun in Rockford.

During a break from the fantastic Meltdown Drags, we called into the Sunrise and were revived by their hearty food. I had a lovely omelette and my husband's chocolate malt milkshake and stack of pancakes were great. We would return when back in the area,

The Blackhawk Steak Pit

Whether it's a day trip from Chicago or a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Oregon is less than 2 hours away from Chicago and offers many outdoor activities. Its a great place to visit. The Steakpit offers amazing hospitality and awesome food. Specializing in steaks cooked over an open charcoal pit. We also offer a fresh fish of the week. We have a different fresh fish flown in every week. (Call and ask what our fish of the week is, if you are a seafood lover) The Steakpit has been a staple in the community for over 3 decades. We are known for our steaks but our menu has a lot more than just steaks to offer.

My husband had his usual ribeye - always perfect. He loved the 3 cheese mashed potatoes that was one of the options instead of a baked potato. We ordered the escargot (they are to die for!). I just had the salad bar... everything was well stocked and fresh. Our friends had a rib eye and a tenderloin - both said they were perfect. They also ordered the Alligator appetizer. That was very good... I've had alligator before that was tough, this was NOT tough and had a nice flavored breading.

Service is excellent. We need to go back more often!

We stopped in here on our Friday night out with friends. It is now under new ownership. We haven't been here in about 6 months, but we thought we should check out the owners. We were seated upon arrival. They offer a salad bar, with a soup of the day which was chicken noodle. The portion size here is large I had the Walleye for $10.00 and it is all you can eat. My wife had the grilled chicken breast. When the food arrived she cut her chicken breast in half that is how large it was. It was moist and tender, some places it can be pretty thin and tough, but not at the East End.
We will be returning again, we ate for less than $20.00.

Have visited this place in the past and found it to be very good. Went yesterday for breakfast and it seemed something has changed with the quality of the food. The waitress was clueless, and we had to ask repeatedly for butter and syrup for my grandsons pancake as well as his milk. I did not get my hash browns and then she asked if I had ordered them. Funny how she asked which type of potatoes I wanted, and then just forgot all about it. The place wasnt busy and she seemed like it was her first day or that she had never taken an order in her life.

Aero Ale House

Cold homemade chips. Ugh. Makes for hard and chewy chips. Unattended on a semi slow Sunday. Won’t put it on my go back to list. Chicken sandwich was overpowered by sauce which hid the grilled flavor. Not fond of the cold veggie strips they placed on top of sandwich. I don’t eat both parts of bun. Totally impossible to cut and eat with fork when served on paper. Tasty paper. NOT.
