After seeing the signs on 49 for a long time we decided to stop on a Saturday morning on the way to Joplin. This is a German bakery and deli less than a mile off the highway. We are SO glad we finally stopped!! They...MoreThank you so much for your wonderful and descriptive review. I'm sorry for the delayed response. I was able to read, but was unable to respond previously. We appreciate your business!

We wouldn't have stopped here for lunch if I had read the review that mentioned the restaurant allowed smoking. The food was pretty good, we had burgers, fries and homemade chips (thick fried potato slices). The downfall was that the smoke smell was strong throughout the restaurant. The bathrooms that connected the restaurant and bar area were so full of smoke we couldn't use them.

We've eaten here several times & continue to be pleased. The food is always good & the portions are always a nice size. There is plenty of seating so we've never had to wait. Most of the waiters are very friendly, but not 100%. The prices are very reasonable! If you like Mexican food, you'll like this place!

I visit Butler, MO at least once a year and was sad to find the restaurant previously at this location to be gone, good memories including them opening the restaurant up for my daughter's private rehearsal dinner so it was hard to see change but I convinced myself to try it. Not sad anymore. Stayed in town for a month to visit family, lets say we ate here, a lot! So much that I think there was only a couple of things off the menu I didn't try.
I can't stop thinking about the pastrami sandwich, several thick hand cut pastrami slices grilled then put on a butter toasted bread, and the fries, so I normally don't like coated (Burger King type) fries but these were different, actually really good. I'm trying to think of all the things I've eaten here which all were very good. My least favorite were the spiral fries even they were still good. I've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here and oh the desserts!
I've had the Chicken Sandwich(huge), pork tenderloin (hand hammer and battered), pastrami sandwich, fried Chicken(Thursday night special), club sandwich, Southside Breakfast, apple dumpling(oh my gosh), Strawberry pie(holy cow good), Union cheeseburger, steak (there's only one), Randy's breakfast pie, breakfast burrito, that's all I can think of off the top of my head . Oh yeah, the pretzel sticks with beer cheese dip, holy, holy cow, I could just eat those and be happy. I ordered them then shared. Not gonna make that mistake ever again, get your own! Service is exceptional, so glad to recognize one waitress from previous restaurant. Sweet tea is so good and they always keep it filled.
If you haven't figured it out I highly recommend eating here. Advice though, note the hours its open and when reading the menu make sure to pay attention that some items are only for dinner, and some are only offered as specials on certain nights otherwise enjoy!

Whether it's a nice dinner on a Friday night, a quick lunch on work break, jam session Wednesday, or early morning breakfasts, you can't go wrong with this place! They were so easy to work with when we had our rehearsal dinner there. Love the atmosphere, delicious food, and amazing owners/employees.

I lived here in the 50's and 60 ' and this places looks exactly the same. Still does burgers and fries and all the old drive in standards. Susie Q's are great, and so is everything else. Would definitely recommend.

I love eating here on weekdays, the salad is cold and fresh. And they are really good at bringing out fresh hot pizza. My only problem was the hostess. There is a sign that says please wait to be seated, so we waited for several minutes. She was somewhere in the back. Finally when she gets to us, we tell her two for a table. She looks all around the restaurant looking for a table. There were 8 people in the place, really? Then the poor waitress is running herself ragged and the so called hostess disappears again. But I will go back for the food, it is that good.

We found Gray's Cafe by cruising the streets of Butler, hoping for something besides fast food for lunch. And find it we did!
The place was packed; a woman offered us seats at her table. Friendly folks in Butler.
The menu options were typical of a good small town cafe. The prices were well within expectations. The food was excellent. We had the chicken fried steak (off the diets for the day). The gravy was definitely better than most.
The breakfast menu looked good, too.
The cafe was clean, decorations sparse (emphasis is on the food).
If you're near Butler, get off Hwy. 71, go into town and get some really good food.

We stopped in for some afternoon sugar-laden beverages on our road trip. It was just what the doctor ordered! Love the cream slushes and all the other choices they offer. Even a small is plenty! Service was quick.

there are a lot of Subways around. They are all good, so I think the cleanliness and atmosphere is what really makes this one stand out. The people behind the counter are so patient and nice, they really do try to help you out. I think the ingredients are super fresh here too.
