The view overlooking the lake is quite impressive. Not a bad seat. We had the broiled shrimp and the crab cakes for our entrees. We did not expect the crab cakes to be as good as they were. The broiled shrimp were not overcooked at all and were very flavorful. We both had the rice pilaf as a side which was also very good. Both were very reasonably priced. Our bill was $24 without drinks. The place was very busy and the service was very good. Our visit was on a Friday for lunch. The restaurant is on a great traveling road along with great views and great food.

We were staying at Switchback Creek Campground and this was the recommended breakfast place.
Always trust local knowledge, it has served us well over the years and once again got us a fine place to eat.
So good we went back two more times before moving on.

I've eaten here several times over the last year, and keep coming back! The menu is excellent with lots of options (from picky eaters to the healthier choices) and they also have seasonal menus. I am not a coffee drinker, but I've gone with several friends who love all their fun drinks! The pasta salad is my favorite. Their desserts are to die for! I would highly recommend having some while you are there. A bit of constructive criticism for the business- sometimes the organization and miscommunication is evident to your customers. Every single time I've gone, a waiter has mixed up a food or seems to be out of touch with the baristas and other waitresses. Other than that, fantastic service and food!

This is a tiny place but it has the best food. You won't be wowed by the outside - don't let that deter you. They make the food fresh right in front of you. Everything we had was awesome, including the wonton soup with ginger and cilantro.

This little spot has fabulous pizza but if you have dietary restrictions you might have some trouble finding a meal... I’m gluten free (my problem; I know) but there is SOMEthing I can order everywhere we eat out. Not here. No options at all. No salads, one soup of the day which was not gluten free and honestly when I asked the young girl at the register rolled her eyes and acted annoyed it’s me. Apologies...it’s not easy on those of us with health problems either.

La Cucina is a real Italian homey kitchen offering 28 seats. The dining room is situated inside of the kitchen. We cook entirely from scratch. Always ready to experiment new recipies, but strongly influenced by the traditional cuisine of Milan and Lombardy. From our passion for the art of eating well and from our family to yours, we hope you enjoy these delicious recipies from our Italian timeless tradition.
The other reviews say it all. I wanted to add to the glowing comments already posted.
This is a small but wonderful restaurant located outside of Mountain City TN. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
The owner Matteo and his crew work very hard to provide a memorable dining experience. The setting is welcoming and like being in his home.
Its rare for me to give an excellent (5 buttons) rating, but this one deserves it!
If you are in the area and can plan ahead don't miss this experience.

Family has been going there about 10+ times a year. It's our favorite place to get southern cooking! Everywhere we try new family style restaurants, we always compare them back to Shirley's. Still haven't found anything to top this delicious restaurant! Staff is SUPER friendly.

The Subas have mastered hospitality, cooking, and baking. Their little restaurant is a landmark because of the great food, excellent service and outstanding value. Small dining room is cozy, charming and busy. Menu is vast. Desserts are massive and irresistible.
Today we had Broccoli Cheddar soup (fresh cracked pepper!), Angel hair pasta with shrimp in seasoned olive oil with parmesan cheese, Chicken Parmesan with broccoli, Red Velvet Cheesecake and the Chocolate Eclair. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service was quick and attentive.

They have killer cheeseburgers, unique atmosphere. This is just a little country store with a lot of appeal. If you're heading to Backbone Rock, this is a must stop. The employees are super nice, friendly, and very helpful. They have a little restaurant and you can dine in or take out and sit in one of the rockers. They have gas, both venomous and non-venomous. Its located right at the corner of highway 133 and 421. (The Snake) so named because of the switchbacks.

It is a Mom and Pop (Mr. and Mrs. Dugger) business. The food is excellent with quality ingredients and "made from scratch." Friendly service. Clean restrooms, kitchen and dining area. Not too expensive. Near Watauga Lake. We eat here weekly as we are local residents and we meet with several friends. I can highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner coffee and dessert. There is also a general/country store on the premises.
